| Guest speaker Kim Caskey World Wide Whispers The project is called World Wide Whispers. In a nutshell, it's a bit like the game where someone whispers a sentence in the ear of the next participant and then continues around the room, everyone evolving and changing the original sentence. Five countries participated in this World Wide Whispers project, Team Scotland, Team Ireland, Team Netherlands, Team USA and Team Canada. Each team started with the leader of their country (me for Team Canada), using an original photo as inspiration to create their piece, then photographed their finished piece, and sent that photo and artist statement to the next person on the team. The next team member then used that photo as their inspiration to create a piece, photographed it and sent it along to the next person, and so on and so on. Team Canada is comprised of 13 members, a representative from each province and territory. The completed collection has been presented and exhibited around the world. Kim will introduce us to each artist and their unique piece of this world wide project. | | 2024 VMQG meeting dates Add ’em to your calendar 🗓️ Monday, January 15 >> virtual (zoom meeting link sent via email) Monday, February 19 >> virtual (zoom meeting link sent via email) Monday, March 18 Monday, April 15 Monday, May 20 Monday, June 17 Monday, July 15 August >> no meeting Monday, September 16 Monday, October 21 Monday, November 18 Monday, December 16 | VMQG inventory time Heartfelt thanks to any member who is storing materials on behalf of our Guild, things like fabric, tools, Showcase materials, meeting or workshop supplies, etc. If you have anything, please email Hillary with an itemized list so we can inventory and organize the items. president@vancouvermodernquiltguild.ca If anyone has VMQG digital files, such as spreadsheets, documents, photos, etc., we’d like to inventory and organize that too! Kawandi quilt registration | | Kawandis are created improvisationally with small scraps of fabric stitched from the outside toward the centre in such a way that you piece and quilt simultaneously. In this workshop you will make a mini quilt incorporating the design elements of a traditional Kawandi. Creating these hand stitched quilts can be relaxing and meditative, so pack up your hand sewing tools, your favourite scraps, and join Arita over a few hours for a creative and relaxing experience. | Map Quilt Workshop with amy dame Saturday, March 23, 2024 10am to 5pm Croation Cultural Centre, Room C 3250 Commercial Drive, Vancouver $65 for members + $45 supply fee paid directly to amy $75 non-members + $45 supply fee paid directly to amy >> bring a friend! With so many new guild members it seems worth repeating, plus, isn’t February a love note kind of month?! The following instructions are a merger of a couple of patterns. In some of the samples a text—or directional fabric—was selected but this is not essential. Read the instructions beforehand, Love Note sews up very quickly. Block Instructions Block Lotto in Bulk—keep an eye on the block lotto section of our website, we’re posting block lotto instructions in bulk so you can select the blocks you like in advance. BIG thanks to Sue and our BL testers for all their work. Block Lotto Bonanza—we will continue doing a block of the month in January and February while we meet on Zoom. At our March meeting, we'll have three block lotto draws!!! You’ve Got Mail wall hanging by Kelly Liddle. | WIPs Update We’re nearing the end of the WIP year; how are you doing on your finishes??!
