Public Service Announcements and News Releases

Prince Albert Victoria Hospital expansion reaches halfway mark

The Government of Saskatchewan recently announced that construction on the Prince Albert Victoria Hospital acute care tower has reached 50 per cent completion and is progressing on schedule.

“Reaching the 50 per cent completion milestone marks meaningful progress on a critical project that will strengthen care in Prince Albert and across northern Saskatchewan,” Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) CEO Andrew Will said. “Our teams are already preparing to ensure the expanded Prince Albert Victoria Hospital is ready to deliver enhanced care for patients, enabling more care to be provided closer to home for residents of the North.”

The new multi-story acute care tower will increase patient capacity by approximately 40 per cent, raising the number of inpatient beds from 174 to 242. The project also includes several new and updated features that will bring culturally safe, modernized care and improved outcomes to patients in Prince Albert and the North.

The facility is expected to be completed by spring 2028.

SHA CARES - Living our Values

On May 14, 2026, Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) employee, Kelly Johnson, received the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) Women of Distinction Award for Health and Wellness. A nurse of 30 years and currently Executive Director of Tertiary and Surgical Services, Kelly is a leader and an active volunteer in her community and currently serves on the board of directors for the Heart and Stroke Foundation Saskatchewan.

Kim Groff of Saskatoon lives with corneal lattice dystrophy, a hereditary condition that affects the corneas and progressively worsens vision over time.

Thanks to donor corneas, he has received transplants in both eyes.

 Recognition and Appreciation

June is Stroke Month! Did you know that an estimated 3,200 Saskatchewan residents have a stroke each year? With Saskatchewan Stroke Awareness Day on June 17, several events are being hosted to raise awareness across the province. For more information and resources, see the link below.

Donor support via Royal University Hospital Foundation helped 20 RUH Emergency Department nurses participate in Rapid Response training in Saskatoon. The course focused on recognizing when a patient’s condition is deteriorating and responding quickly and effectively.

A productive year allowed 3sHealth to contribute to improvement initiatives in the Saskatchewan health-care system that created nearly 850,000 positive impacts for patients, residents, clients, and care providers across the province.

Home Care Information System replacement update

This fall, the Saskatchewan Health Authority is replacing Procura, the current electronic system used in Home Care, with a modern information system developed by CIVICA Solutions to better support client care across the province.

The new system is expected to assist staff and clients with standardized scheduling, assessments, care planning, and documentation across the province, helping ensure that Home Care providers have timely access to the information they need to deliver high-quality, coordinated care.

Medication Administration and Monitoring procedure training period

The Medication Administration and Monitoring Procedure (SHA-08-010P9) and implementation checklist are available for training purposes on the SHA Policy and Clinical Standards document finder.

The pre-implementation period allows time for team training and preparation before the procedure takes effect on July 3, 2026. It is not expected that everything will be in place on the effective date of a new procedure. For many areas this will be a work in progress.

The implementation checklist is a tool designed to help operational managers or clinical designates and educators facilitate the transition to the new procedure.

Starting June 11, security questions will no longer be available for Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR).

To reset your password, you must use an approved sign-in method, such as Microsoft Authenticator, phone call or SMS. Microsoft is retiring security questions because they are easier to guess and provide less protection than modern authentication methods.

Note: This does not affect the security questions used by the Service Desk to verify your identity.

What you need to do
Make sure you have an approved sign-in method set up:

If you already use Microsoft Authenticator or phone verification, no action is needed.
