The Seed Library is Back!

Find the Bowen Island Seed Library display once again inside the Library during our open hours.

How does it work?

  • Take free seeds
  • Grow plants
  • Let some go to seed, save seeds, and donate seeds back for future gardeners!

We're accepting seed donations now and throughout the growing season. If you have saved or store-bought seed to share, bring it to the library, and we'll add them to the Seed Library.

The Seed Library is currently stocked with seed packets prepared by the the Bowen Island Community School Student Garden Club, Bowen Agriculture Alliance, and Bowen Island Food Resilience Society—a big thank you from us to these local groups.

We've also received a generous donation by Salt Spring Seeds, including copies of the book, Medicial Herbs to Know and Grow by Dan Jason and Rupert Adams, ready to be borrowed.

Come down and pick up the seed you need!

Film Night: Carmen

Thursday, March 2, 2023 | 6:00 pm

Drop in for a movie in the Annex! On March 2, we'll be showing Carmen (2022), written and directed by Valerie Buhagiar.

Drop in, no registration required. Come a little early and grab a comfy chair—film starts promptly at 6 pm, and runs 87 minutes. Rated PG (Ontario).

Carmen is a charming story, inspired by true events, set in a village in Malta. Carmen has looked after her brother, the priest at the local church, since she was sixteen years old. Now almost fifty, she is suddenly left to start a new life. Facing her past, Carmen brings colour to the lives of the villagers in this compelling story about a woman finding her voice.

Carmen won Best Film at the Canadian Film Festival in Toronto.

Film Night: The New Corporation

Thursday, April 6, 2023 | 6:00 pm

Join us for a showing of the film The New Corporation (2020), directed by Jennifer Abbott and Joel Bakan

Drop in, no registration required. Come a little early and grab a comfy chair—film starts promptly at 6 pm, and runs 105 minutes. Rated PG (Ontario).

The Corporation (2003) examined an institution within society and diagnosed it as psychopath. With The New Corporation co-directors Joel Bakan and Jennifer Abbott are back with their lightning-rod of a sequel that reveals a world now fully remade in the corporation’s image, perilously close to losing democracy. They trace the devastating consequences, connect the dots, and now with the #1000 Screenings campaign they hit the streets to join in the resistance and change movements from around the world.
