Reunion dinner, Saturday, June 4, 2022

Make an X on your calendar and reserve June 4, 2022 for a return of our annual dinner.

Yes, we are planning to hold a reunion dinner at the Cabane à sucre D'Amours, in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines. What a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with your friends after this long period of seclusion! So save yourself this date for an unforgettable evening.

Details to come in our next publications.

Return to flying. Are you ready ?

With the return of spring, your plane is about to come out of hibernation and you, as a pilot, are back on the yoke. Are you ready ? And what about your plane?

Here is a typical situation that requires reflection: In the event of an engine failure on takeoff, should you turn around and return to land on the runway?

We cover this eventuality and many others in a video training, approved by Transport Canada, which covers the return to flight after this period of inactivity.

Its objective is to bring you back safely into the air after this long winter period and for some, abstinence. Whether it is to comply with the regulations (RAC 401.05 - knowledge update) or to take care of your skills as a pilot, we recommend that you watch this training.

Topics covered are:

  1. What is the condition of your aircraft?
  2. Are you ready as a pilot?
  3. What is the state of your technical preparation?
  4. Planning and managing your flight.
  5. Piloting defensively "Threat management"

RVA Chez Mo/Mo's Fly-In

After a waltz of hesitation concerning the possibility or not of clearing a runway for planes on wheels, the decision was made to go back to what Maurice Prud'homme announced this fall: no runway and therefore RVA for planes on skis or for helicopters.

Moreover, friend Maurice had announced that the whole organization was becoming too heavy for him and that he would not be serving his no less famous chili. And to top it off, we were told last week that Maurice could not be there being hospitalized.

It is therefore in a particular context that the preparation of this 32nd RVA was nevertheless prepared by his friends, including Richard Raymond and Louis Dufresne of the Club COPA 169, Pontiac and a few others.

Last minute surprise, Maurice received a "special" leave allowing him to attend "his" RVA, to the delight of everyone and that of Maurice obviously.

According to Patrick Vergobbi's count, 10 planes and two helicopters landed on the snow, but Mckay and Kawartha roads in Luskville also served as parking places for many other visitors.

What smiles! And it's easy to understand, because for some, it was a return to a winter RVA after a two-year wait.

A "light" electric seaplane in Quebec

"Those who think it's impossible are asked not to disturb those who try"

Until Sunday March 6, you can meet the promoters of a somewhat crazy project: to fly an all-electric light seaplane. BushCaddy R-120.

As I know that Pierre Harvey, the editor of Aviation magazine, passed before me and that Richard Saint-Georges will no doubt write about this project, I'm not going to pull the rug out from under them. In the meantime, to find out a little more, read this article in La Presse

To see the current project with your own eyes and discuss with the promoters at Mail Montenach in Beloeil, you must make an appointment. You have until March 6. Make an appointment HERE

Renewal of category 4 medical certificates

A reminder on the procedure to follow.

Physical and mental fitness for a Category 4 medical certificate is established by completing Form No. 26-0297, Medical Declaration for Licenses and Permits Requiring a Category 4 Medical Standard. A reminder that in order to be eligible for a category 4 medical certificate, you must not have any medical conditions that are listed on this form.

This document (26-0297) is available HERE

It is recommended that pilots submit a request for a Category 4 Medical Certificate by email to their appropriate Regional Service Center whose email addresses can be found by clicking HERE .

Medical statements should be sent to the regional service center and not to Civil Aviation Medicine to avoid unnecessary delays. Transport Canada agrees to respond within 60 days of receiving the request.

The age of the applicant and the type of permit or license applied for determine the frequency of medical examinations necessary to meet physical and mental fitness requirements. The period of validity of a medical certificate is calculated from the first day of the month following the date of the medical examination or the medical statement.

We also learned from Transport Canada that the 90-day exemptions for logbook signatures will be renewed in January 2022. So don't worry, your logbook is still valid even if you haven't received the label.
Similarly, those who have a card that expires, the exemptions will be renewed as well. Transport Canada should decide on the new timelines shortly.

Photo Contest 2022

The 2021 competition is now a thing of the past. The winning photos will be announced in the March/April 2022 issue of L'Aviateur magazine.

And the 2022 contest is back!

You can now send us photos by writing to us at photos@aviateurs.quebec

You have until March 31 at 10 p.m. to send us your photos.

On the subject of photo resolution… most “smart” phones take photos in acceptable resolution and even “high” resolution. But often, the email software used is set to send only low resolution previews. This can be corrected by the user… You can also go through a manipulation by copying the photo and pasting it into the message. It is also possible to use WeTransfer, MailDrop from Apple, Google Drive in Gmail or OneDrive from Microsoft.

THE IMPORTANT is:

  • Give a TITLE to the photo
  • Give the full NAME of the PHOTOGRAPHER
  • Give YOUR full NAME
  • Give your member NUMBER (IN RULE).

For the rest, we will consider that you have read and accepted the rules when you participate...

Contest rules are HERE
