The April 1st 2025, proof release arrived, bringing a fresh wave of exciting updates! After a year-long collaboration with breed associations, industry partners, and breeders, Lactanet proudly introduces the modernized Lifetime Performance Index (LPI).

In this edition you’ll discover these changes, learn how to create your personalized LPI on LactanetGen.ca, and find out which national selection index best aligns with your herd goals!

 

Modernized LPI

The modernized LPI includes six subindexes, each published individually and combined to create a balanced response for traits of importance. With the LPI, you can boost genetic progress and select for a herd that is high performing, efficient, and long lasting!

Pro$ Update

Pro$ is Canada’s economic selection index designed to maximize cow lifetime  profitability and is updated annually. On April 1st 2025, Lactanet introduced a rolling average of economic values for the past 5 years to reduce fluctuations

LPI or Pro$?

Identify which national selection index aligns best with your breeding goals by reviewing proof correlations with each trait. Remember, just because a trait is not directly included in the LPI or Pro$ formulas, doesn’t mean you won’t make progress for the trait!

Want to take a more tailored approach that reflects your goals? Create your pLPI at LactanetGen.ca by signing in and modifying the percentage emphasis on each subindex. View your pLPI next to the official LPI for each animal via the Animal Query or Group Query!
