Oh, Canada: Is it time to change what’s taught in history?

Dr. Catherine Broom has launched a survey that invites all Canadians to share their views on Canadian citizenship, identity and citizenship education. She is hoping to gather Canadians’ views, hopes and beliefs about what kind of society they would like Canada to become.

“Canadian national identity and citizenship has been subject to contention since Canada first came together as a collection of European colonies on lands that were, and continue to be, home to rich Indigenous cultures across diverse terrains,” says Dr. Broom, associate professor.

Professional Development Seminars

Our Professional Development seminars are non-credit courses designed for teachers and education specialists to enhance their skillsets, explore new research and best practices, and gain knowledge and understanding with practical implications.

EAL Teaching and Learning in Multilingual Classrooms: Part One

Participants in this 12-hour series of professional development seminars will consider transformative and impactful ways to work with English as an additional language (EAL) learners in school settings. With an overview of the mechanics of EAL teaching and learning, additional language learning theory, and key classroom supports for EAL learners, participants will come away with concrete ideas to incorporate into their teaching practice.
