The results of your input from Phase 3 of REIMAGINE NANAIMO along with proposed changes to the draft City Plan - Nanaimo ReImagined will be presented and discussed at the May 9 Governance and Priorities Committee (GPC) meeting.

2022 BUDGET

Council will consider adoption of the 2022-2026 Financial Plan and the Property Tax Rates Bylaw at a Special meeting on May 9. Once adopted, the tax rate will be set and property owners can expect tax notices in their mailboxes by the end of May.

Skating Schedules Adjusted

The Clippers Hockey Team has successfully made it to the third round of the playoffs for the season! We are so excited for them and are cheering them on. As a result, there could be changes to our current skating schedule. Before heading to the rink, please check here for a list of changes and cancellations. Go Clippers!

Schedules for Nanaimo Aquatic Centre, Beban Pool and both weight rooms change as of May 8. Please check the pool and weight room schedules on the City website for updated schedules.

All families with 3-5 year old children are invited to register for the family-oriented outdoor play-based activities being held on May 12, 4-6 pm at Deverill Square Park. This program is funded by the Ministry of Education and offered in partnership with NLPS, PacificCARE and the City of Nanaimo.

May Bastion Lighting Calendar

When you see the Bastion lit up in a colour, it's for a special reason such as a holiday or awareness for a cause. In addition to the dates below, it will be blue and yellow for Ukraine. In May, the Bastion will be lit:

  • May 12: Purple for Fibromyalgia Awareneness Day
  • May 5-11, 13, 15-29: Blue and Yellow to show support and solidarity in the community for Ukraine

Will Your Commute Be Affected This Week?

Up-to-date information on City construction projects:

  • Ninth Street is closed between Bruce Avenue and Plecas Crescent. Detours will be in place and commuters are asked to plan their travel accordingly and account for extra time when navigating the area.
  • Metral Drive is still an active construction, so please drive slowly, respect the new 3-way stops, and expect delays while navigating the construction zone. Enterprise Way will be closed eastbound during the week of May 9th – 13th. Please detour on Aulds & Hwy 19A during this period.
  • Watermain upgrades are underway on Laguna Way east of the intersection with Lost Lake Road. Commuters can expect minor delays.
  • Nottingham Drive is closed between Hammond Bay Road and Cumberland Place. Commuters should plan to access Nottingham from the north end.
  • Utility upgrades are taking place on Cottleview Drive and Hillside Avenue between Caldwell Street and Pacific Edge Way. Commuters can expect minor delays.
  • Fourth Street between Bruce Avenue and Pine Street is closed in both directions to through traffic, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Hamilton Avenue at Pine Street will be closed to southbound right turning vehicles. Local traffic is permitted. All businesses remain open and accessible. Road closures will remain in effect until May 2022 when the Fourth Street Complete Street Phase 1 project is completed.
