2026 Culture Awards

Each year at the City’s Culture Awards, our recipients are honoured with a unique, locally created art piece. Last year, we were privileged to have Dave Bodaly, Knowledge Keeper from Snuneymuxw First Nation, create the gifts and join us at the ceremony to share their meaning before presenting them to our award winners. The beautifully crafted cedar hats made from Red Cedar and, in some cases, adorned with wool in remembrance of the Woolly Dogs of Snuneymuxw, were a highlight of the evening!

This year, a new artist has been commissioned to create the artwork that will be gifted to our 2026 award recipients. Join us on Tuesday, April 14 for a free evening of celebration, joy and entertainment as we honour this year’s outstanding contributors to culture in Nanaimo. Tickets are free but must be reserved!
