Mycoboutique - Twenty Years already

In April 2006, at 820 Rachel Street East in Montreal, Pierre Noël opened a “general store” dedicated to mushrooms—so named because it aimed to bring together, under one roof, everything needed to satisfy the needs and whims of those interested in mushrooms and mycology: food lovers, chefs, growers, scientists, and… hikers.

A few months later, his daughter Judith, a biologist, left the Montreal Biodome to join the company, where she is now co-owner and director.

In 2008, running out of space, Mycoboutique moved to a larger location on the same street. Five years later, once again driven by the growing popularity of mushrooms, a second move became necessary.

That’s where you’ll find us today: on the ground floor of a beautiful building on Saint-Denis Street. The space is larger, more accessible, and better suited to online retail.

On April 25, you’re invited to celebrate with us. If you plan to attend this happy hour event, please RSVP.

Excursions

Lace up your boots for the season ahead and head out on an adventure! Join our expert guides for an exceptional wild mushroom foraging excursion.

Our outings take you less than 120 km from Montreal for a fully immersive forest experience. Since we first opened, more than 10,000 hikers have enthusiastically taken part in our excursions.

Reserve your spot soon—several dates are already open, starting with our traditional “Wild Seasonal Plants and Mushrooms” outing on May 10.

Entertaining Conference

Before heading into the woods, many people enjoy our interactive lectures on edible mushrooms—their biology, identification, and safety. These talks have already been attended by thousands of enthusiastic participants:

April 9 in French and June 9 in English.

Final training session of 2026

Love hiking in nature? Passionate about mushrooms? Want to master the art of foraging?

On June 20 and 21, we invite you to deepen your knowledge and train to become true mushroom hunter-gatherers!

To your gardens and woodlands!

As soon as the ground thaws, the garden awakens—and it’s the perfect time to introduce the wine cap, a flavorful mushroom that thrives alongside your vegetable plants. With the return of milder temperatures also comes the time to prune branches for woodland mushroom cultivation—a simple, sustainable way to turn your property into a true forest pantry.

Even city dwellers can join in: a simple drilled bucket is all you need to grow beautiful oyster mushrooms at home and enjoy continuous harvests throughout the summer.

Interested in learning how to grow your own mushrooms? Join our introductory mushroom cultivation workshop on May 3 and start the season off right!

Lion's Mane

This white, spiky mushroom is among the most popular and widely cultivated mushrooms in the world. It goes by several common names inspired by its appearance: pompom, lion’s mane, monkey's head, pompom. Beyond its exceptional flavor, it is prized for unique medicinal properties—it seems to enhance cognitive function.

In local forests, you can also find a few relatives of the same genus, such as the bear’s head and coral-tooth fungus, which share similar texture and color but differ in their longer “mane.”

Our options

Grow it indoors with our cultivation kits, or outdoors using our plugs for inoculating logs (beech, elm, maple, or poplar).

For the kitchen, we offer it dried—whole or powdered—ready to be rehydrated and cooked to your taste (cooking is known to enhance its seafood-like notes).

And of course, we also offer it fresh, cultivated locally.

Plenty of good reasons to visit us and stock up!

As veggie-crab patties

We’re reinventing the classic “crab cakes” with a local, mushroom-forward twist. Lion’s mane, known for its soft, seafood-like texture, pairs perfectly with dried lobster mushrooms to create a patty that’s tender and juicy inside, with a crispy exterior. A lightly tangy tartar sauce is recommended.
