Welcoming Alum to the PQI Team 

Back in September, some changes were made to the PQI leadership structure. We welcome two new physicians to our PQI team, both from Cohort 9: Vamshi Kotha, Physician Lead, Alums, and Trish Snozyk, PQI Faculty Mentor.

Speaking of Cohort 9.... A video montage of the Cohort 9 Graduation Ceremony that took place on October 16, 2025 is now available, with backing song provided by our PQI Physician Advisor, Dr. Alex Hoechsmann 

 

Alums celebrated at the South Island MSA Awards

Recently Dr. Adele Harrison was awarded the 2025 South Island MSA Award for Collaborative Leadership and Dr. Marie-Noelle Trottier-Boucher was awarded the 2025 South Island MSA Award for Innovation Leadership. A huge congratulations to these two QI superstars!!

PQI Alum's celebrated at the 2025 Island Health Planetary Health Awards

The Planetary Health Awards recognize staff and teams who take action to protect the environment, support climate resilience, and make our health system more environmentally sustainable.

Congratulations to the Choosing Wisely at Island Health team, including PQI Alums, Dr. Adele Harrison and Dr. Michael Chen for winning the Excellence in Planetary Health Award. 

Honorees at the awards included teams featuring more PQI Alums: Dr. Valeria Stoynova and Dr. Kara Schneider.

SQI Project representation at the IHI Conference in Canberra, Australia

Dr. Jennifer Kask (Cohort 7) and Dr. Sarah Fraser from Port Alberni represented SQI at the International Forum on Quality and Safety in Healthcare in Canberra, Australia presenting a poster on the Birth Related Cardiovasular Health (BiRCH) Clinic. Nov 19 - 21, 2025.

 

PQI Project Recognition at Nanaimo Event

Dr. Sienna Bourdon (Cohort 8) showcased her PQI project poster at a recent Division of Family Practice event in Nanaimo, Access Initiative Launch: Tools for Sustainable Practice. While Sienna was unable to attend the event, her office manager, who played a pivotal role in the project success, was able to present the poster on behalf of the project team.

The 42nd International Society for Quality in Health Care Conference will take place from 27–30 September 2026 in Dublin, Ireland. This year’s theme, Thriving Through Compassion and Community: Sharing Stories for the Future of Health Systems, highlights how empathy, collaboration, and shared learning can strengthen health systems worldwide.

Registration now open for the 38th Annual Health Policy Conference

The UBC Centre for Health Services and Policy Research (CHSPR) will be hosting the annual Health Policy Conference on March 12-13, 2026 in Vancouver. The theme of the conference is The Quintuple Aim: Can't Get There From Here? and there is currently a call out for workshop proposals (closes Dec 10) and poster abstracts (closes Dec 18).

The JCC Conference 2025 took place in October and many of our PQI Alum attended and/or presented. There is now a highlight video and a post event report available. In addition, the program, presentations, storyboard awards and photo gallery can all be viewed on the conference resource webpage.
