Kids' Acting Workshop with Calder Stewart

Friday, August 4| 1:00-2:30 pm | Ages 8-12

We're so excited to have Bowen's own Calder Stewart offering an acting and improv class for kids ages 8 to 12.

This one-time workshop will lead kids through improvisation exercises designed to grow their creativity, develop empathetic listening, and have tons of fun!

This is a free Summer Reading Club event, but spots are limited, so please register soon.

Celebrate the end of the Summer Reading Club with the Medal Ceremony and art activities! If you’ve finished the 50-Day reading Challenge, come for your medal. This year we have special guest Mayor Leonard to hand out awards.

If you can’t make it, collect your medal anytime at the front library desk.

Enter the Summer Reading Club Prize Draw!

When you receive a sticker for a week of reading at the library, you can enter your name in the prize raffle box! You can enter a new slip for every week of reading. Each week, two new winners will be announced, and they can come pick up their prize at the library.

Note: If you previously received stickers, you can also come to the library to enter your name.

We thank the Bowen Island Fibre Arts Guild for sewing these amazing book bags as prizes for our summer readers!

Two Fully Subsidized Tickets Now Available • Apply by August 6

Subsidized Tickets

Through generous funding from the Friends of the Bowen Island Public Library Society, the Library is pleased to be able to offer two fully-subsidized Write on Bowen Festival passes to community members for whom the ticket price is a barrier.

Whether you are a senior on a fixed income, a teen who is interested in writing, or anyone else who self-identifies as needing a no-cost ticket, please let us know.

Email the Bowen Library at info@bowenlibrary.ca and ask to be entered in the random draw. You do not need to give a reason for entering the draw. Please apply by Sunday, August 6, and we will draw two names on August 9.

Write on Bowen • Tickets Now On Sale

September 16 & 17, 2023

Come to the 2023 Write on Bowen Festival of Readers & Writers, held on Bowen Island on Saturday and Sunday, September 16 & 17.

The festival, sponsored by the Bowen Island Public Library and the Hearth, Arts on Bowen, will once again be presenting eight workshops over two days, plus a Saturday Night Festival Gala, featuring Bowen's own Wade Davis.

Summer Reading Club

Come in and register for Summer Reading Club at the Bowen Library!

BC Summer Reading Club is a free literacy program that encourages reading throughout the summer and engages children (ages 5-14 years old).

It includes weekly crafts, games, & activities at the library, and a 50-day reading challenge where kids track their reading to win a medal at the end of the summer! Throughout the challenge kids can collect stickers for every 7 days of reading.

Teen Summer Reading Challenge

Bowen Library challenges you to a summer of great reading! Pick up your tracker at the Library, or download the fillable PDF and complete seven Reading Challenges and three Bonus Challenges. Books can be hard copies, graphic novels, ebooks, audiobooks and braille.

On your tracker check off the challenges you complete, list the books you’ve read, and tell us which challenge was your favourite and why. Feel free to include any work you produced to meet the challenges.

Submit the finished tracker to us (at the front desk or through the book drop), or email it to info@bowenlibrary.ca by August 31, 2023 to enter the grand prize draw! Winners will be contacted.
