Aviation safety - Base to final: the most dangerous turn!

Transport Canada, as part of its General Aviation Safety Campaign (CSAG), has developed a series of training modules aimed at raising awareness in the general aviation community of safety issues and providing pilots with the knowledge that they need to be able to fly more safely. Transport Canada, along with its US counterpart, relied on recent statistics and found that loss of flight control (LOCI) in the ICAO taxonomy is the leading cause of death in the aviation community. general. Every year, pilots lose their lives due to stalls or spins mainly during takeoff or landing. Stalls can occur in all phases of flight, but are particularly deadly on takeoff and during the final turn. This article discusses the dangers of the base to final turn; the most dangerous turn depending on the strength and direction of the winds.

The forgotten exploits of a young Quebec aviator: The Berlin Kid

Award-winning journalist Hélène de Billy, whose father was close to bomber pilot Roger Coulombe (1920-2010), recounts with extraordinary verve the exploits of this Quebecer during World War II in her new book, The Berlin Kid . This fascinating document, which contains extracts from the pilot's diary, recounts the life of the only Allied Forces aviator to have carried out 12 raids on the German capital.

Born in Montmagny, Roger Coulombe has been somewhat forgotten, like the vast majority of Canadian airmen who took part in the bombing campaign on Germany between 1943 and 1945. He was inducted in 2003 into the Panthéon de l'Air et de l space - Fondation Aérovision Québec .
