We know that starting a university project in a new institution requires familiarizing yourself with a multitude of new things, and that is the mission of GO-Poly, a welcome program created especially for new students at Polytechnique Montréal.

Through newsletters, a website, webinars and welcome activities, the GO-Poly program will provide you with essential information on registration, course selection, computer tools, materials and more!

New student journey
In order to be informed on all the important steps before and during your first semester at Polytechnique Montréal, follow the new student journey, which has been specially developed for you, according to your study program. It is an essential reminder!

Now, you need to confirm your registration for the semester indicated in the academic calendar:

  • from December 13 to 22, 2022,
  • from January 5 to 20, 2023.

To register, you’ll need to get your access code and password from your Student Record (Dossier étudiant).

Then you'll be able to select courses and make course changes during the registration period.

Payment of tuition fees will be made at a later date. An email from the Registrar's Office will be sent to you.

Please note! Before making your choice of course, it is very important to complete your study plan with your supervisor or research director. The study plan is mandatory for all new graduate students.

Deferring admission
Thinking of postponing the start of your study programme to a later term?This may be possible. First check for which terms your offer of admission is valid. This information is indicated on the admission letter issued to you by the Registrar's Office of Polytechnique Montréal. If your admission remains valid for one or more subsequent terms, consult the section on deferred admission on the GO-Poly website for more information.

 

Welcome session for the graduate studies new students

In order to facilitate your adaptation to your new study environment, we invite you to a face-to-face welcome session, during which you will receive a wealth of information essential to your academic career at Polytechnique Montréal.

The welcome sessions by your programme supervisors will be divided according to your engineering programme

Do you want to improve your French language skills? There are courses to help you!

The Ministère de l'Immigration, de la Francisation et de l'Intégration du Québec (MIFI) offers free French courses for immigrants living in Quebec.

Find out about the various courses offered.

The École de langues (Language School) of the Université de Montréal offers online credit courses in French for all levels. To register, you must first submit an application for admission and then register for the mandatory online placement test. For more information, consult the procedure to follow on their websitePlease note! Placement tests are held in the fall and you must register early! 

In the fall and winter terms, Polytechnique Montréal also offers the course SSH0345 - Pratique du français écrit, which allows students with a working knowledge of French to improve their writing skills.

Mandatory steps

Most of you will need a Certificat d'acceptation du Québec (CAQ) for studies, a study permit and a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) or an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). You will need to have these documents approved before you travel to Canada to begin your studies.
