Notice: Changes to
Dressage and Para-Dressage Tests
Ottawa, ON, Dec. 19, 2019 – Equestrian Canada (EC) would like to advise the Canadian dressage and para-dressage communities of the following changes to the national level tests used in EC sanctioned competitions.
Dressage Tests
The national dressage tests, which change every four years, have been updated for 2019. The tests are developed by the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) and the United States Dressage Federation (USDF). Each test provides valuable tools for training, as well as for use in competition. The 2019 versions are now available on the EC website at www.equestrian.ca/sport/dressage/tests.
2019 will mark the first year that the following tests will be used in Canada:
- USDF Introductory Tests A-B-C. These introductory tests will replace the former EC Walk/Trot Tests.
- USEF Developing Horse Prix St. Georges and Developing Horse Grand Prix.
- USDF Freestyles Training through Fourth Level. These tests will replace the former EC Freestyle tests for First through Fourth Level.

Para-Dressage Tests
The following change has been made to the Para-Equestrian (2018) Walk/Trot/Canter Test - Level 3:
- In movement #1, “Enter in medium trot,” has been changed to, “Enter in working trot”.
The EC para-dressage tests are used for Bronze level competition and the Para-Dressage Video Competition Series. They are designed to progressively develop the skills of athletes entering the competition stream. Please note that classification grades are not included in the tests, as athletes are not required to be classified to compete at Bronze competitions and are encouraged to compete at the highest level of their current riding ability to facilitate the development of effective riding skills.
