Highlights from the Thompson-Nicola Regional District Board of Directors’ Meeting of August 13, 2020

The TNRD Board of Directors held its regular Board Meeting in-person at the Valley First Lounge of the Sandman Centre in Kamloops with social distancing guidelines and safe meeting protocols in place. A full recording of the meeting can be viewed here.

Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 2718 Adopted

Zoning Amendment Bylaw No, 2718, 2020 was adopted as recommended. The bylaw received third reading on July 16, 2020 subsequent to a Public Hearing, and approval from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure was received on July 17, 2020. The amendments rezone an 11 acre property at 6769 Highway 97 south of Clinton from RL-1: Rural to C-2: Service commercial with site-specific provisions to enable vehicle wrecking and storage.

2020 Freshet Flood Season Summary

The Board received a report on TNRD’s flood response during the spring and summer of 2020. While the region was spared from significant, wide-spread flooding that has been seen in past years, there were multiple incidents of flooding and challenging situations during this year’s freshet season. The report included a breakdown of the TNRD’s response efforts and areas identified for further discussion and improvement.

Savona Recreation Association Contribution Agreement

The Board authorized the Chair and Corporate Officer to execute a contribution agreement with the Savona Community Association for the operation and maintenance of the Savona Community Park, which includes the picnic area, playground, ancillary buildings, beach, boat launch and dock. The TNRD will provide financial support in the amount of $8,000 annually over a 5-year period commencing in 2020.

The next Regular Board Meeting is on September 17, 2020 at 1:15 pm.
