Environmental pathways of antimicrobial resistance:
A One Health case study

This One Health case study explores antimicrobial resistance (AMR) as a complex environmental public health issue that extends beyond clinical and agricultural settings into households, wildlife, and drinking water systems. It highlights how environmental public health professionals can apply a One Health approach in practice to strengthen surveillance, inform risk assessment, and support coordinated and cross-sector responses to AMR.

Chronic wasting disease in wild game: What are the food security and safety concerns?

Chronic wasting disease (CWD) causes fatal neurodegenerative illness in cervids such as deer and elk. The spread of the disease has major implications for both wild and farmed animals, and the food security of individuals and communities who rely on hunted-cervid meat each year. Strategies to contain the spread of CWD are critical to protecting this important food source. This blog sets out some of the key facts about the occurrence of CWD in Canada, considers the key food security and food safety concerns, and signposts to essential CWD resources.

Cold weather conditions: Health outcomes among people experiencing homelessness and interventions to prevent mortality and morbidity

People experiencing homelessness, especially those who are unsheltered, encounter significant challenges in maintaining adequate warmth and protecting their health during cold weather conditions. This review highlights evidence showing disproportionately high rates of cold-related illness among people experiencing homelessness, often accompanied by delayed care, more severe injuries, and an increased risk of complications.
