National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day

Join us in honouring the lost children and survivors of the residential school system by attending the ?Aq'am Welcome, Walk, and Lunch event at the St. Eugene Mission on September 30th, starting at 10:00 AM. This is a meaningful opportunity to reflect on and support the healing journey of Indigenous peoples.

You can also recognize this important day by wearing an orange shirt. This simple act helps raise awareness and shows solidarity with survivors and their families, acknowledging the impact of the residential school system and the ongoing journey toward reconciliation.

Civic Cnetre Lead Paint Remediation Update

The City of Kimberley is announcing that lead paint remediation work will begin at the Kimberley Civic Centre on October 1st, 2024.

In August 2024, City staff observed paint flaking off the walls and roof in isolated areas on the east side of the building's interior. In response, the affected areas were promptly sectioned off to ensure public safety, and a Hazardous Materials Risk Assessment (HMRA) was conducted by Keefer HSE Haz Mat, Safety, Energy Ltd. The assessment confirmed the presence of lead in the paint.

To address this issue and ensure the safety of residents and visitors, the City has awarded the remediation contract to Proteck Hazardous Materials Management Ltd. The remediation work is scheduled to begin on October 1, 2024, and is expected to be completed by October 18, 2024.

Safety is our top priority, and we are taking the recommended precautions to support the successful removal of the lead paint while minimizing disruption to Civic Centre activities. We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding during this time. Further information will be released as it becomes available.
