Coquitlam Honours Survivors of Residential School System

September 30 is a day for Canadians to reflect on the history and enduring impacts of the residential school system on Indigenous peoples. In honour of this day, the Survivors’ flag will be flown at Coquitlam City Hall from September 27 to 30.

This week, the City of Coquitlam is hosting and supporting local events and initiatives that encourage remembrance and learning. Pinetree Way and Lafarge Lake will be illuminated in orange to symbolize the ongoing journey toward Reconciliation and the importance of shared reflection.

Some civic facilities and services will be closed or limited on September 30. Visit our Facility Hours page for details.

New Deadline for Small-Scale Housing
Coquitlam Moves Forward with Careful Planning

The Province has granted Coquitlam an extension to implement the recent Small-Scale Multi-Unit Housing mandates, with a new deadline of June 30, 2025.

This provides Coquitlam the necessary time to update key bylaws and ensure essential infrastructure is in place. Coordinating these updates will allow for new small-scale housing that meets the community's needs, at a reduced risk of overloading existing systems.

Connect with Coquitlam

We acknowledge with gratitude and respect that the name Coquitlam was derived from the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ (HUN-kuh-MEE-num) word kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (kwee-KWET-lum) meaning “Red Fish Up the River”. The City is honoured to be located on the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm traditional and ancestral lands, including those parts that were historically shared with the q̓ic̓əy̓ (kat-zee), and other Coast Salish Peoples.
