Highlights in this edition... | | Mayor's Message On behalf of King Township Council, welcome to the October edition of the King Bulletin. As we enter October, King Township continues to advance its commitment to environmental sustainability. I’m excited to share that Council has officially endorsed the King Community Climate Action Plan (KCCAP), which aims for net zero emissions by 2050, with an interim target of a 35% reduction by 2030. This plan, developed with the input of over 1,000 residents, positions King as a leader in environmental sustainability, with initiatives like expanding EV charging stations and waste diversion programs. In conjunction with the KCCAP, we are also celebrating Circular Economy Month throughout October. I encourage everyone to take part in events and activities that promote sustainability. Visit king.ca/EnvironmentalEvents for a full list of activities. But October isn’t just about sustainability—it’s also a time to celebrate King’s growing culinary scene! King Township is excited to announce the expansion of its popular Taste of Main event to encompass the entire Township, now rebranded as Taste of King. This expanded event will run from Oct. 26 to Nov. 9, offering food enthusiasts the opportunity to explore the diverse culinary scene across King Township, including Schomberg, Nobleton and King City. A full list of participating restaurants and menus will be available soon at king.ca/TasteOfKing. As Thanksgiving approaches, it’s a time for reflection, gratitude and thinking about how we can help those in need in our community. You can make a difference by attending the King Township Food Bank’s Annual ‘Sip & Savour’ Fundraiser on Thursday, Oct. 24, from 6-9 p.m. at Seneca Polytechnic, King Campus. This year’s theme is a Hawaiian Luau, featuring traditional music, hula dancing, authentic Hawaiian cuisine and a tiki bar. Tickets are $100, with all proceeds going towards providing essential supplies like food, pet kibble and paper products to residents in need. Tickets can be purchased online at ktfb.ca. And don't forget to get spooky this October with two fa-‘boo’-lous Halloween events! From a haunted night at Creepy Creek on Oct. 25, to family-friendly activities at Halloween at the Museum on Oct. 26, there’s fun for all ages. For more information, visit king.ca/CreepyCreek. Please continue to volunteer, shop locally as much as you can and visit king.ca for the latest news on all things King. Did you know that up to 50% of household waste is composed of food waste? Starve the landfills, feed the earth by adding a new kind of ‘appliance’ to your kitchen: a FoodCycler, which recycles your food waste into a reusable resource for gardening. King Township has partnered with The FoodCycler to establish a pilot program that offers King residents a (heavily) discounted rate on the FC-30 Model for $150 plus HST (retail value $500) and the Eco 5 Model for $300 plus HST (retail value $800). There are only 50 available, (and they sold out in the first pilot program earlier this year), so reserve your FoodCycler at king.ca/FoodCyclerPilot. | Help make King a lot greener at tree planting events Make a positive impact on the environment with King Township and LEAF for two tree-mendous afternoons of planting!
