WLNG Project Update: Public Comment Period Open to August 2

The public comment period is now open for Woodfibre LNG’s application to amend its Environmental Assessment Certificate to allow for the installation and operation of a second floating worker accommodation at the WLNG Project site.

The BC Environmental Assessment Office (BCEAO) public comment period closes August 2, 2025. The application and comments are available on the BCEAO website: https://engage.eao.gov.bc.ca/Woodfibre-A4

Notice of Local Events and Impacts: Squamish Days Loggers Sports Festival 

Please anticipate the following closures on Cleveland Avenue from August 1 to August 3:

Friday: 3 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Pemberton to Victoria

Saturday: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Expect high traffic and pedestrian volumes in Downtown Squamish.

Sunday: 6 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Pemberton to Vancouver 

Accessible parking will be available at two locations (see map):

  • Stan Clarke Park
  • Winnipeg Street

If possible, we encourage using active transportation — there will be free bike valet services OR consider using public transit.

Notice of Temporary Closure: Brennan Park Recreation Centre

Work to the lobby’s flooring will take place over the course of the day on Tuesday and requires using products that produce strong odours. In the interest of the public’s health and comfort, a full closure will be required.

The facility will open to the public on Wednesday, August 6.

Please note there will be no impacts to summer camps on Tuesday, August 5, as all camps will take place outside.

We understand the impacts this has on recreational activities, so we thank you for your patience while this work is being completed.

Notice of Landfill Partial Closure

The Squamish Landfill will be partially closed from August 5-7 for paving work. 

The transfer station and recycling area will be closed. During that time, only the following items will be accepted:

  • General waste
  • Wood
  • Yard waste
  • Drywall

This work is part of the District's Annual Paving Program for 2025.

Notice of Traffic Impact: Mamquam Bridge Closure

Utilities inspection work will take place on the Mamquam Bridge on Tuesday, August 5. Please anticipate single-lane alternating traffic during the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Traffic management will be in place. Thanks for your patience while this work is being completed!


Notice of Traffic Impact: Victoria Street Active Transportation Upgrades

Localized work will take place between August 5 and 8, with roadwork on Victoria Street between Third Avenue and Second Avenue beginning the following week. Please expect the following:

• Work will take place between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday to Friday.
• Increased noise levels.
• Short-term traffic disruptions due to construction activities and vehicles.
• Localized road closures along Victoria Street will be required.

Work is anticipated to last for approximately 4 months. All efforts are being made to minimize impacts to the area.

Air Sealing Made Easy

Join our Air Sealing Workshop Series and learn how to identify and seal air leaks for a cozier, more cost-effective living space.

Curbside Tune-Up

The District of Squamish, in partnership with Squamish CAN is conducting curbside checks to help improve individual organics and recycling.

Auditors will visit all Squamish neighbourhoods for brief inspections of both recycling and organics totes through the summer.

Get in your Comfort Zone with Retrofit Assist!

Homeowners who are looking to make their houses more energy-efficient and comfortable have access to a FREE, one-to-one guidance session through the Retrofit Assist program.

Retrofit Assist will also work with the local construction industry to provide training and professional development courses so Squamish workers can benefit from the projected boom in retrofit activity in the future.

Homeowners interested in participating in Retrofit Assist are encouraged to visit retrofitassist.ca/squamish for more information.

The public comment period is now open for Official Community Plan (OCP) Amendment Bylaw No. 3139 (OCP Bylaw 3139) prior to consideration of second reading in the fall.

These amendments are Provincially mandated in order to align the District’s OCP with long-range housing needs identified in the Squamish Interim Housing Needs Report.

Experience the joy of low-intensity training for men, combining energizing aerobics, strength training, coordination, balance, and stretching, all infused with laughter! This is the ideal opportunity for those who may have shied away from fitness classes to embrace a healthier lifestyle.


Feel the Music
Every Wednesday, 2:45-3:45 at the 55 Activity Centre

This mood-lifter class inspired by various forms of music uses chairs for warm-up and support – a fun exercise for mind and body. All levels welcome.


Chasing Nature - 7-12yrs
August 5-8, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. at Brennan Park Recreation Centre

Join us to explore local trails, identify the many trees and plants that live amongst us, and cool down at the end of the day with some water games and activities. This camp will visit the Sea to Sky Gondola. While we welcome campers ages 7–12, most participants are typically between 7–9.

Cost for the camp is $288


Wellness Through Creativity
August 6-27, 1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. at the 55 Activity Centre

Come join us as we expand our creative minds through different art forms. This is a fun, open and interactive space to experiment and give space to your imagination.
