Blue Band Newsletter                                     December 2021

The Association of New Brunswick Licensed Practical Nurses is the regulatory authority for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) in New Brunswick. Our mandate is protection of the public by promoting the provision of safe, competent, ethical and compassionate care by its registrants.

Message from our Executive Director

The ANBLPN Board of Directors and staff continue to watch with pride and gratitude as you continue to rise to the challenges facing the health care system.  We see you bringing your clients safe, quality care with compassion and understanding when New Brunswicker's need it the most.

For this and everything you do as LPNs everyday, we thank you and wish you all a happy and safe holiday season.

Sincerely,

JoAnne Graham

ANBLPN Festival of Lights Tree

ANBLPN were pleased to once again sponsor and contribute a tree for Pine Grove Nursing Home's "Festival of Lights".

Since its inception in 2010, the Festival of Lights has brought joy to the hearts of Pine Grove residents and has become a popular seasonal tradition for people living in the greater Fredericton area. The funds raised from their sponsors are put to a great many purposes, including special beds, furniture for lounges, and a garden to improve the quality of life for residents.

The Pine Grove Foundation Festival of Lights in Fredericton can be viewed from December 1st 2021 to January 1st 2022.

Learning Goals for 2022

As we prepare to enter into the new year, now is the time to start thinking about what learning goals you would like to accomplish for 2022.  By setting your goals early, you have a full year to accomplish them.

Every LPN in New Brunswick must comply with the annual Continuing Competence Program (CCP) in order to remain actively registered in good standing.  LPNs will complete their self-assessment, using the CCP Self-Assessment Tool, to review their Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics.  Once you complete your self-assessment, you will have a better idea of what learning goals you should be aiming for.

There are several documents and tools available to guide you through this process. Please click the links to get you on the right track for CCP!

Sign up for PAD for 2022-23 Renewal

Are you tired of the lump sum payment at the time of registration renewal? Is your employer no longer participating in payroll deduction?  You may want to consider signing up for Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD) for your 2023 renewal fees!  Currently we have over 5% of our membership who are taking part in this service and these numbers are growing!

Please review the following information regarding PAD:

  • If you are already signed up – you do not need to do anything. Debit withdrawals will restart January 15/22
  • If you are currently not signed up and want to take part, you can do so at anytime!  Login to your ANBLPN account and on the left menu bar select "Sign Up for PAD"
  • Once you click "sign up", a screen will appear to enter in your banking information.  Enter your Bank #, Branch # and Account #.  **Please ensure you have your correct banking information - if you are unsure please request this from your banking institution. If your account has "O's" at the beginning, you must enter them
  • If you sign up after January 14th, 2022 you may have a balance owing as of October 1st, 2022 and you will then just need to pay the difference when you submit your registration renewal form on-line.
  • You can cancel your PAD subscription at any time - login to your ANBLPN account and your PAD subscription is on the left.
  • Monthly payments of $36.12 will be withdrawn from your account on the 15th of each month starting January 15th, 2022 and the last payment will be September 15th, 2022 for the 2022-23 licensing year.
  • When renewal opens for 2022-23, you will complete your renewal application and your money will be automatically applied to your approved registration.

That's all there is for you to do!

In Memoriam

ANBLPN was saddened to hear of the recent passing of Stephen Lifsches, LPN. Stephen, worked for many years with Horizon Health at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton.

Many LPNs will remember Stephen from our past annual "Meet and Greet" social function as part of our AGMs.  Stephen entertained our guests with his saxophone and was also well known in the music community having been a part of many Harvest Jazz and Blues festivals and "the sax man" for various local bands.
