Alumni giving back: Brandy Kawulka establishes new bursary in support of women in trades

BCIT Joinery alumna and former professional ballerina Brandy Kawulka recently established the Brandy Kawulka Joinery/Carpentry Bursary which will award three $500 bursaries per year to BCIT students. Brandy feels passionate about encouraging women to go into the trades: "I have had a great trajectory in my own life because of my career in the trades, and I think it's a great avenue for women to partake in." Looking ahead: Future-proofing careers in health sciences for students in 2021 and beyond

No other sector has been more directly impacted by COVID-19 than heath care. There is no doubt the pandemic delivered an array of challenges but Lisa Chu, Dean of the School of Health Sciences, says it also led to unexpected opportunities: "It has really accelerated innovation and change." The new Health Sciences Centre is on track to complete in spring 2022 and will be transformative for student learning. Over $1.5M in new donations announced benefitting trades and technology students

The Gene Haas Foundation has made a generous donation toward renovating the BCIT Machine Shop to upgrade and modernize existing facilities.
