Alumni giving back: Brandy Kawulka establishes new bursary in support of women in trades

BCIT Joinery alumna and former professional ballerina Brandy Kawulka recently established the Brandy Kawulka Joinery/Carpentry Bursary which will award three $500 bursaries per year to BCIT students. Brandy feels passionate about encouraging women to go into the trades: "I have had a great trajectory in my own life because of my career in the trades, and I think it's a great avenue for women to partake in." Looking ahead: Future-proofing careers in health sciences for students in 2021 and beyond

No other sector has been more directly impacted by COVID-19 than heath care. There is no doubt the pandemic delivered an array of challenges but Lisa Chu, Dean of the School of Health Sciences, says it also led to unexpected opportunities: "It has really accelerated innovation and change." Student teams from the Computer Systems Technology Diploma Artifical Intelligence Learning Option set out to answer the question, "How can artifical intelligence (AI) and machine learning bring about solutions to the challenges posed by COVID-19?" Over $1.5M in new donations announced benefitting trades and technology students

The Gene Haas Foundation has made a generous donation toward renovating the BCIT Machine Shop to upgrade and modernize existing facilities. Former instructor Walter Miklas Walter and Janet Miklas Memorial Bursary for eligible Electrical students. BCIT has launched the Centre for Digital Transformation (C4DT) in support of industries in embracing digital transformation. BCIT Applied Research received Gold in the Applied Research and Innovatoin Excellence category of the 2021 CICan Awards of Excellence. BCIT students win big at IDEC Student Design Competition

Congratulations to BCIT Interior Design students Jessica Taumoto, Saebom Kim, and David Kim, who took home the top prize at the 2021 Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC) Student Design Competition.

BCIT student receives 2020 SARA National Student Design Award

Congratulations to BCIT Architectural Science student Anthony Marques on receiving a National Student Design Award of Excellence from the Society of American Registered Architects.

BCIT GIS students bring winning 'hack' to life with City of Maple Ridge

Congratulations to BCIT Geographic Information Systems (GIS) students Jenna Kim, Habi Sivakaran, Callum Bowles, and Martina Todorova on winning first prize in a hackathon hosted by the City of Maple Ridge.
