COMING UP AT COUNCIL

CONSTRUCTION WORK FOR PHASE ONE OF BRENNAN PARK RECREATION CENTRE UPGRADES BEGINS EARLY APRIL

The first phase of the Brennan Park Recreation Centre Green and Accessibility Retrofit Project is set to begin on Monday, April 1 starting with upgrades to the ice arena changerooms. The changerooms will be closed to the public from April until late August and will require ice users to arrive at the centre pre-dressed before using the arena until end of May. The renovations will include a new accessible changeroom, upgraded flooring, paint, entry and bathroom stall doors, handwashing basins, and new lockers.

Replacement of the ice arena roof insulation will begin in June following the annual ice removal and reopen to the public for use in the fall. Improvements to the staff administrative area near the pool lobby will also begin in the summer which will involve the closure of the pool lobby entrance and the removal of two trees and surrounding shrubs for foundation work. This is the first of several phases of construction planned over the next two years to retrofit the building.

EFFORTS CONTINUE TO FINALIZE NEW DROP-OFF RECYCLING LOCATION

The District of Squamish is supporting Recycle BC - the non-profit organization responsible for residential packaging and paper recycling in BC - in their efforts to establish a new long-term recycling depot in Squamish.

Recycle BC services a network of recycling depots across the province and works with private operators to host drop-off collection sites and collect Recycle BC materials, thus removing the responsibility for local governments to manage taxpayer-financed recycling programs. GFL (the current host) is ending the contract due to space constraints and site safety concerns.

The Queens Way Depot is expected to close Friday, May 31.
