April 18 Open House Recap:
A Caribbean-Inspired Celebration

Our April 18 Open House brought a full Caribbean atmosphere to the building. Guests arrived to bright colours, island décor, and live steel pan music, inspired by the beauty and spirit of Jamaica, that carried through the lobby all afternoon.

The culinary team delivered a spread of sweet treats and Jamaican-inspired flavours. A special thank you to Yousef for his contributions to the dining experience. The Life Enrichment team rounded out the day with a seashell craft activity - the sample on display drew a lot of attention.

It was a strong afternoon, and a clear reflection of what our team brings to every event. We look forward to welcoming you back for our next Open House this fall.

Team Spotlight
Kennedy Astill, CRA

Kennedy Astill grew up in Norway after her family left Edmonton in 2000. She swam competitively, supported her brother's hockey career, and developed a lasting interest in knitting and cross-country skiing alongside her studies.

She returned to Canada to complete a Biochemistry degree in Kelowna, where volunteer work at a medical clinic introduced her to healthcare and confirmed her interest in supporting patients and physicians.

Kennedy began her career as an Unblinded Pharmacy Lead at a private research clinic focused on Alzheimer's studies. Working closely with older adults and individuals living with cognitive diagnoses gave her a clear sense of purpose and a lasting commitment to seniors care.
That commitment brought her to Riverwalk, where she continues to build on that experience while supporting residents with cognitive impairments.

Outside of work, Kennedy enjoys walking, crochet, cross-stitch, baking, and cribbage - often played with residents who keep her sharp. Family is important to her, and she visits her loved ones in the Middle East whenever she can.
