Residential Swimming Pools: Significant Changes Ahead

By September 30, 2025, all residential pool owners must ensure that their facilities comply with the new standards.

One important change this year: grandfather clauses no longer apply. This means that you must comply, even if your facilities were compliant when your pool was installed.

Here are the main requirements:

  • Install a fence at least 1.2 meters high, with no elements that could be used to climb over it and no openings large enough for an object 10 cm in diameter to pass through (between the bars or between the ground and the bottom of the enclosure).
  • Gates must have self-closing and self-latching mechanisms.
  • Equipment such as heating and filtration systems or any other fixed elements must not be accessible to young children or must be installed more than one meter from the pool.

In Memory of Gilles Decelles

It is with sadness that we learned of the passing of Mr. Gilles Decelles, former mayor of the Town of Brome Lake, on May 13.

Mr. Decelles devoted many years to serving our community.

Elected municipal councillor from 1980 to 1987, he then served as mayor twice: first from 1987 to 1991, then from 2009 to 2013, for a final term.

The Town of Brome Lake extends its sincere condolences to his family and loved ones and wishes to honour his valuable contribution to the development of our town.

*We would like to thank Le Guide newspaper for the photo of Mr. Decelles.

Fire Prevention: Let’s Stay Vigilant This Summer!

Summer is synonymous with fun, relaxation, and outdoor activities... but let's stay vigilant to avoid unpleasant surprises!

Here are a few important reminders:

  • Barbecuing? Never leave your grill unattended. Keep it away from flammable materials and always have a means of extinguishing it within reach.
  • Campfires: Before lighting a fire, make sure you comply with municipal regulations and check the fire danger rating published by SOPFEU.
  • Be prepared at home! Test your smoke detectors, keep a working fire extinguisher handy, and discuss an evacuation plan with your loved ones.
  • Carbon monoxide (CO) doesn't take a vacation! If you use a generator or any combustion appliance near a sleeping area (trailer, cottage, short-term rental, etc.), make sure you have a CO detector in good working order.

When camping or staying in temporary accommodations, these precautions are even more important. Better safe than sorry!
