WLNG 10-Year Agreement in Principle

The District of Squamish and Woodfibre LNG (WLNG) have negotiated, in principle, a 10-year financial agreement. If approved by Council, the community would receive at least $142 million over the next ten years in pre-committed revenue. If not approved, the District would continue to rely on property taxation, with the amount of tax revenue received based on the annual BC Assessment valuation of WLNG properties, and the tax rate set annually by Council.

Council is seeking public feedback on the proposed agreement before a final decision is made in early October.

Social Media Community Terms of Participation

The District of Squamish has updated its social media policy to provide clear guidelines for how the District interacts with the public on social media platforms. The policy includes a new Community Terms of Participation to encourage a safe and respectful online environment for all users.

Content that violates these terms will be removed.

Recreate Responsibly

When you're near active work sites with heavy machinery running, please follow these steps:

• Stay back 100m from large equipment (including mowers) while it's operating.
• Before passing, wait for the operator or flagger to see you and signal that it's safe to proceed.
• Watch out and respect worksite signage and marked work areas.

Summer Mulch Program – Reload!

Six yards of free mulch has been reloaded at Hendrickson Playing Field parking lot impart to the Summer Mulch Program.

How It Works

• Free mulch is available at Hendrickson Playing Field parking lot on a first-come, first-served basis.
• This is a self-serve, unstaffed site with 24-hour access.
• Bring your own:
  • Shovel
  • Buckets or containers

Please take only what you need:

• Maximum: ¼ yard per household (about three wheelbarrows full or 10 × 5-gallon buckets)

Upper Mamquam Road School Zone Removal

The Upper Mamquam Road school zone will be removed as the nearby school is being relocated. Note, this change will occur before students return to school in September.

As part of the Traffic Calming program, the District will be installing two raised crosswalks east of Aristotle Drive later this fall. Learn more about ongoing Traffic Calming projects at squamish.ca/traffic-calming.

Impact Notice: Paradise Valley Bailey Bridge Repairs

Paradise Valley Bridge repair work is now underway. Please allow for extra time and expect minor delays throughout construction, as well as increased noise levels during the work.

This bridge is a critical piece of District infrastructure, and abutments were identified for repair through routine District bridge inspections. The abutments provide critical support of the bridge structure at both ends of the bridge. This work is required to improve the condition and safety of the bridge.

Infrastructure Upgrades

• Depot Road Active Transportation Upgrades and Annual Watermain Upgrades continue in Brackendale.
• Wastewater System Upgrades continue in Dentville, on the Madill Forcemain. Construction work is paused.
• Annual Line Painting continues.

• Work on the Paradise Valley Bailey Bridge repairs is now under way. Expect overnight closures on September 10 and 11, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
• Phased construction work on Squamish River Dike at Harris and Dryden Pump Stations and Central Lift Station continues through November.
