Official Plan Review: Phase 2 Public Survey & Workshops

Phase 2 of the Official Plan Review project is now underway. Phase 2 includes a public survey and four public workshops.

The public survey seeks input regarding community design elements, including character and design, community services, housing, climate change, parks, trails and open space. Take the survey here.

Four public workshops are scheduled throughout July and August on key topics related to the focus of Phase 2; registration is required. Register here.

The Blue Mountains Fire Chief Stephen Conn Awarded Medal of Bravery

The Town of The Blue Mountains is pleased to announce that Fire Chief Stephen Conn was awarded the Ontario Medal for Firefighter Bravery on Thursday, June 22, 2023, by the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.

Chief Conn received the medal for his actions on January 11, 2022 when he responded to an emergency call for a house fire. As the fire rapidly spread through the home, Chief Conn climbed a ladder to rescue the trapped individuals.

The Town would like to congratulate Chief Conn on receiving the medal and for his continued dedication and service to the community.

Rosemary Gosselin Named Senior of the Year

The Town is pleased to announce that local resident Rosemary Gosselin has been selected as the recipient of the 2023 Province of Ontario Senior of the Year Award for the Town of The Blue Mountains.

Established in 1994, the Senior of the Year Award honours one outstanding local senior in each municipality in Ontario.

Rosemary was presented with the award by Mayor Matrosovs and Councillors at the June 19 Council Meeting.

The Town would like to thank Rosemary for her outstanding contributions to the community and congratulate her for recieving this award.

Town Waives Parking Fees for Farmer's Market

The Town of The Blue Mountains Council has made the decision to waive fees and charges at the Town Hall Parking Lot on Sundays in 2023 until 6:00 p.m. for the Thornbury Farmer’s Market season.

The decision to waive the fees and charges was made at the Monday, June 19 Council Meeting. The change is now in effect.

The Blue Mountains Seniors Network is hosting an outdoor senior's fair at Bayview Park in Thornbury. Features live music, refreshments, and information booths on local senior services, housing & recreation. Admission is free.

Community Improvement Plan Update

The first intake for the Community Improvement Plan was a success! Thank you to all the business and property owners who expressed interest and submitted applications. Final funding announcements will be made in mid-July.

Water Tower Rehabilitation

The rehabilitation of the Victoria Street Water Tower remains on schedule. Repairs to the interior of the tank have been completed, and BGL Contractors is currently applying the new interior coating. Workers have also begun installing the plastic shrouding that will seal the structure during the removal of the exterior coating. Abrasive blasting of the exterior of the tower is currently anticipated to begin late in July.

Thornbury Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion

The Town’s contractor has begun mobilization for the Thornbury Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion. The facility is currently operating at approximately 80% of its total capacity of 3,580 cubic metres per day. Phase 1A of the expansion project will see the installation and construction of all materials required to bring the rated capacity to 5,330 cubic metres per day. Construction work is anticipated to be completed in 2025.
