Community safety activities began today, September 18, and include the removal of danger trees and site clean up from the encampment area located at Main Street and Third Avenue. Encampment residents have been required to temporarily leave the area for their safety during this process. Outreach teams are providing supports, including shelter beds at Under One Roof and essential sheltering materials, such as tents, sleeping bags and sleeping pads. | | The District is keeping nearby residents and businesses informed throughout the process and continues to work with BC Housing to confirm a location for the HEARTH temporary transitional housing, which will help support longer‑term encampment response and housing supports for vulnerable populations. Beginning September 19, comments will be turned off on all social media posts to maintain this neutral position. Comments will remain off until the campaign period ends, and comments will open again on posts beginning October 19. | | We encourage the community to learn as much as possible about the candidates and their platforms, and attend an All Candidates Meeting. There are many online forums outside of the District’s social media accounts that provide opportunities for election-related discussion and information sharing amongst residents, and our local media outlets are providing extensive pre-election content.
