- ARC Office Dell Pro Max with GB10 - AI Desktop: UBC’s Advanced Research Computing has setup a Dell Pro Max GB10 workstation for IT and/or researchers to perform exploratory work, prototyping, and testing AI workflows, not for long production runs. For those reviewing potentials for your labs, this is maybe a good way to kick the tires before sinking $5K on a sub-10K GPU workstation setup. The one limitation with these systems is ARM processors - so be aware of x86 software support limitations.
https://www.dell.com/en-us/blog/dell-pro-max-with-gb10-purpose-built-for-ai-developers/ How to request access: Email: arc.support@ubc.ca with subject: GPU workstation request Please include: · Your name, department, project / PI · Brief description of what you’d like to do · Rough estimate of how many sessions and how soon you need access Usage hours & booking: · Location: UBC ARC Office, West Mall Annex 202, 1933 West Mall Vancouver, BC · Hours: Thurs & Fri, 9am-4pm [To be reviewed in January 2026] For additional details | ⛑️ Safety TIPs ☣️ Form updates - The updated Zoology Lab (for room access) and Field Safety Training fillable form includes the required UBC mandatory courses as well as some research safety courses *for most people, to gain access and work in most labs which store chemicals, and have an active biosafety permit. Supervisors must still require to check off any additional safety courses depending on the work the researcher will be conducting.
Supervisors, please make sure that the filled out Zoology Lab and Field Safety Training document is accompanied with the completed safety certificates when requesting keys/access into labs. More information: Zoology Lab (for room) and Field Safety Training Information - The updated Undergraduate Student After Hours BIOSCI Building & Lab Access Request Form now includes the working alone template.
A working alone procedure is required for people working alone or afterhours when there is no one around. The template gives the worker an option to use the UBC Safe App as a check in designate, or the other option is to have an actual check in designate. More on: Safety Forms and training - Marine Activities Exploration – Survey Now Open
If your research occurs near or on water, or if your work requires traveling over water to access research sites, please take a few minutes to complete the survey by March 27. Last month, Safety & Risk Services shared that we are seeking insights into learning and research activities that take place near or on water to better support faculty, staff and students. The survey's purpose is to collect information to improve safety resources and programming for marine activities and transport. We are also identifying all watercraft operated as part of teaching and research, regardless of ownership, to ensure appropriate insurance coverage for vessels and research equipment in UBC’s care, custody, and control. | Committees and other units - updates | BIOLOGY Program: Michael Smith Labs presents: Molecular Biology Workshop | BIOLOGY COMMUNITY PANTRY - please contribute to replenish the pantry!
