August 30, 2022

September is the time of year where we all ease back into a routine and our children go back to school. As a business owner, what are you doing to invest in yourself and your employees through extra training or empowerment?

Are you connecting with your employees and asking them “What do you need to do your job better?”

Investing in your employees reaps a lot of benefits, not only for you, but for them as well.

An employee that feels valued and is confident in their job contributes to job satisfaction. It is crucial for employees to be treated with genuine respect, otherwise, their working environment becomes toxic and they just do what they need to do to get through the day.

The following article will give you some tools to create good, positive and happy employees!

Why Businesses Should Invest in Employee Training

1. It helps attract and retain great talent.

2. It can identify which employees are worthy of promotion.

3. It can increase employee engagement.

4. It translates into savings for the company.

5. It helps shape the future of your organization.

Business Success Highlight: All Through the House

Karin Macoun founded All Through the House in 2005. Her sister, Monika McLachlan, acquired the company in 2007 and now provides a large DIY centre for people remodelling and restoring furniture. They provide both vintage hardware and the broadest collection of replica hardware in southern Alberta. They also host classes where people can learn to paint, engage in creative activities, and enjoy a relaxing setting.

Many antique and vintage antiques are kept inside, along with projects that the staff has repurposed and painted to sell. There are 20 incredible local sellers inside the store, offering anything from artisan works to antique, collectible, vintage, retro, mid-century modern, and recycled items. There is a sizable yard outside that is filled with all kinds of goods, like reclaimed wood and barnwood, spindles, vintage tools and hardware, rustic farm objects, and a storage tent filled with DIY projects. To build a community of sellers to work with their own in the store, we offer monthly "Junk in the Trunk" sales outside in the parking lot. Music and a food truck are typically present.

They have held neighbourhood fundraisers to assist other Okotoks & area companies such the Sheep River Health Trust, Okotoks Food Bank, Okotoks Friends of the Library, Pound Rescue, and Heaven Can Wait. All Through the House is a must-visit location with a house full of treasures, a wide selection of DIY supplies, a customer-focused staff, and stellar reviews on Google, Facebook, and Instagram.

All Through the House has been in Okotoks for over 17 years, is a part of the economic development in Okotoks, has been selected as the top 5 destinations from Calgary and is currently highlighted with In the Jumpseat with Jacqueline on Telus TV. It is located directly behind the Okotoks Cinemas in the same parking lot and is across the parking lot from Karin Macoun's Red Barn Mercantile.
