Photo Monitoring

If you have time to explore some of Nanaimo's parks over the holidays, don't forget to bring your phone. There are a number of Chronolog photo monitoring sites where you can capture the environmental changes to natural habitats. The images, sourced by the community, will create a time lapse to view progress.

Here is a list of locations you will find a Chronolog photo monitoring station:

 RESTORATION MONITORING PROGRAM

Reducing Consumption

Nanaimo, let's strive for greener giving this year! When choosing gifts, try to select experiences and items with as little packaging as possible. Shop local, shop craft fairs, shop markets or even homemade. Think edible, digital or reusable. Choose gifts that keep on giving back ♻️ not only to family and friends but also to the planet 🌏

Looking ahead to Christmas morning clean up, learn more about using the What Goes Where tool to identify items that don't belong in the blue or green carts. This year, let's make sure as little as possible ends up in the landfill.

Ugly Sweater Day

National Ugly Sweater Day falls on Friday, December 17 this year. While wearing an ugly Christmas sweater, we encourage those in the community to spread kindness and Christmas cheer by connecting with others and giving to those less fortunate.

If you're willing to, tag us in your sweater selfie photos on Instagram (@cityofnanaimo) - we would love to share!

Sandbags Filled & Shared

Over the past few weeks, Nanaimo Public Works and Emergency Management supported the shipment of over 250,000 sandbags from Duncan to Tahsis, helping their fight against flooding.

Please ensure your home is ready for more rain this season. For residents facing flooding, fillable sandbags and sand are available at Nanaimo's Public Works Yard, 2020 Labieux Road.
