| SHA CARES - Living our Values | Elders bring comfort, culture and healing to patients | Cultural advisors with First Nations and Métis Health walk alongside patients like family. Through conversation, story and traditional practices like smudging, they bring comfort and cultural understanding to what can be an overwhelming experience. When complex medical language leaves patients uncertain, a story can make it clear. When the hospital feels isolating, a familiar presence can make it feel safe. “I’m here to cheer you up. I’m here to guide you,” said Vernon Linklater, one of the cultural advisors. “I’m here to support you. I’m here to encourage you in your journey and onto the healing of your life.” Sometimes healing is about more than medicine. Sometimes it is also about being cared for in a way that feels grounded in who you are. | Recognition and Appreciation | April 7 is Green Shirt Day and is a day to honour the victims of the Humboldt Broncos tragedy and their families. It is also a day to continue the legacy of Logan Boulet, a Humboldt Broncos player whose decision to be an organ donor continues to inspire thousands of Canadians to register as organ and tissue donors and to talk to their families about their wishes. | Resource spotlight - Canadian online resource for internal medicine The electronic version of McMaster Textbook of Internal Medicine is now available through the SHA Clinical Library. This Canadian publication was developed at McMaster University in collaboration with the Polish Institute for Evidence Based Medicine. McMaster Textbook presents internists, subspecialists, general medical and nurse practitioners, and medical students in ambulatory and inpatient settings with current evidence relevant to everyday practice. To support evidence-based decision-making, the resource uses the GRADE system to evaluate the quality of evidence and strength of recommendations. For questions or support, please email library@saskhealthauthority.ca. | Individual Client Risk Assessment (ICRA) Effective today, April 7, CS-CP-0107 Individual Client Risk Assessment (ICRA) is now available for use. This clinical procedure outlines best practices for clinical team members in the early recognition of violent or potentially violent behaviors, communication of risk in accordance with legislative requirements, and the use of appropriate interventions. Mandatory CS-LM-0100 Individual Client Risk Assessment Essentials and CS-LM-0101 Individual Client Risk Assessment Comprehensive on MyConnection are available for all staff. See the ICRA Decision Tree on which module to take or speak with your manager. For more information, or to see when your facility is scheduled for rollout, visit the ICRA intranet webpage or contact ICRA@saskhealthauthority.ca. | Video: Reduce Negativity Bias and harmful impacts from stressors Negativity Bias, explains why our brains notice what is wrong faster than what is right—and how to rebalance that. The tendency to focus on problems helped humans survive, but today it can increase stress and overshadow the positive. The video introduces a short reflection practice to retrain attention: notice one thing that is going well, one strength in yourself or others, and one small moment of gratitude. Watch the video and download the Practice Resource to learn how shifting focus helps restore perspective and resilience. Visit the SHA Well-being webpage for more information about our well-being model and available supports. | Stewardship 5-Minute Update - March This month we discuss the potential harms of antibiotic use in the world of dentistry and an overview of Opioid Stewardship Program progress in 2025. | 2026-27 Staff Safety Strategy Survey Deadline: April 23 As part of our annual Staff Safety engagement, we invite you to complete a short survey focused on your day-to-day experience and perception of safety - both within your department and across the Saskatchewan Health Authority.
