Message from the President | | Dear members, dear partners, The year 2020 underscored the resilience of our industry and its ability to reinvent itself. But above all, it highlighted the industry’s primary objective: to serve people. By adapting, in record time, their production lines to develop protective equipment or to supply hospitals with ventilators, our companies helped to combat shortages. They were creative in protecting people and ensuring Canada’s self-sufficiency. Our companies also redoubled their efforts to repatriate Canadian citizens and transport medical personnel. They even reconfigured the interiors of aircraft to optimize the transport of medical equipment. Now they are focusing on vaccinations and the protection of Canadians. We can commend CAE's leadership on this regard, which has launched a strong movement and inspired many business leaders to put their resources to work to protect our people. CAE demonstrated its willingness to propel this initiative and its ability to deploy unprecedented resources by announcing last week that the company was setting up a vaccination centre, at its own expense, at its head office in the borough of Saint-Laurent. The centre will provide vaccinations to employees, their families and the nearby community. This is a first-of-its-kind initiative that will undoubtedly help promote mass vaccination against COVID-19 and reduce pressure on the healthcare system. We all have a role to play in this race against time. CAE has set the pace and I am confident that many cluster members will join the movement to accelerate employee protection and contribute to a rapid recovery of our activities! On another subject, I would like to take this opportunity to note that, every two years, Aéro Montréal elects members from its industrial SME category to sit on its Board of Directors. Stay tuned: we will be happy to share the results of these elections with you at the Annual General Meeting to be held on Monday, April 19. | | | | | SMEs, innovation and the road to growth: An appeal to the ecosystem! | | | | | | Innovation is one of the key drivers of the recovery and the future economy. It is therefore essential that we find ways to ensure all players in our ecosystem embrace it, especially the numerous SMEs in Québec. As part of the work of the Innovation, Competitiveness and Productivity pillar, Aéro Montréal is therefore keen to see the SME and Innovation Committee continue to tackle this important challenge. Join us! | | | | | | Share your thoughts on the new realities of working Canadians: The right to disconnect and gig work | | | | | | The Government of Canada knows that labour protections must continue to evolve to ensure safe and decent working conditions now and into the future. To ensure that labour protections keep up with the rapid pace of change, the Government wants to better understand: - the experiences of gig workers (workers who enter into short-term contracts to complete specific and often one-off tasks) in federally regulated sectors, including those who work through digital platforms like delivery or freelance applications; and
- how federally regulated workers could benefit from a “right to disconnect” policy (for example, by having clear expectations around the use of cellphones after the workday is done).
The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed both the vulnerability of gig workers and Canada’s dependence on them to provide essential services. Furthermore, the fact that that more Canadians are now working from home as a result of the pandemic is blurring the lines between what it means to be “at work” and “not at work.” | | | | | | The latest news about the Québec aerospace industry. | | | | | | "Greener" jobs for the recovery | Seizing the opportunities for a green and sustainable recovery that are available to the sector, Aéro Montréal is working to prepare for the future, to raise public awareness about the industry's efforts to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions, and to promote the professions of the future and the aerospace sector. The aerospace industry wants to make a "green and sustainable shift" that will allow its companies to recruit a workforce with more diverse skills.
