FoS - SKYLIGHT: The Science Centre for Learning and Teaching

  • Small Teaching and Learning Enhancement Fund (TLEF) - deadline for applications is November 13, 2025, at 3:00pm.

The 2026-2027 call for proposals for Small TLEF projects is now open. These projects are often grassroots projects that aim to support innovative pedagogical approaches to enrich student learning. Applicants are eligible to receive up to $50,000 in funding. Further details can be found on the TLEF website (http://tlef.ubc.ca). The deadline for applications is November 13, 2025, at 3:00pm.

Skylight offers early internal feedback on potential submissions with the objective of assisting prospective applicants with the proposal development process. We can help applicants connect with similar existing and/or proposed TLEF projects (including cross-faculty applications), connect with support units such as the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology (CTLT), and provide pedagogical, technical, evaluation, project planning, and/or budget consultation.

If you would like early Skylight support and/or feedback on your project ideas, please contact Skylight’s TLEF lead, Ashley Welsh (ashley.welsh@ubc.ca), by October 20, 2025. Ashley can also review draft proposals if they are submitted to her by October 30, 2025.

For more information about our Small TLEF support services, please visit our website (https://skylight.science.ubc.ca/grants/tlef).

  • Open Educational Resources (OER) Fund

In alignment with UBC’s strategic plan, the Office of the Provost has committed $250,000 in annual funding to support the use of Open Educational Resources. The OER Fund consists of two grant pathways:

Affordability Grants: Large grants of up to $25,000 for UBCV faculty who wish to incorporate OER as required materials into their UBCV credit courses. The application deadline for Affordability Grants is January 15, 2026, by 3:00pm.

Rapid Innovation Grants: Small grants of up to $2,000 are available to the UBCV community for innovative activities that increase OER development, awareness, and capacity building. This grant is available on a rolling basis until the $24,000 allocated each year is depleted.

Detailed information about the OER grants, including fall deadlines and priorities, is now available at https://oerfund.open.ubc.ca/grants.

  • Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Seed Program

The SoTL Seed Program provides graduate research assistants, collegial collaborations, and complementary funding for projects that research impactful pedagogies. The call for applications will open October 9, 2025, and the deadline to apply is November 17, 2025. Learn more at https://isotl.ctlt.ubc.ca/services/sotl-seed-program/.
