To ensure the safety of all users and promote harmonious coexistence on this network, the Town Council has filed a notice of motion for the adoption of By-law 2026-09 regarding public trails. This new by-law aims to regulate authorized modes of transportation, establish speed limits, and define rules for courtesy and safety, including reduced-speed zones and specific rules for crossing bridges. Your opinion matters! Before its adoption, the draft by-law is open for public consultation. We invite you to read it and share your comments using the online form below. Consult the by-law | Expected Traffic Disruptions on Allard Road | In May, Hydro-Québec will be carrying out work on its distribution network, including along a section running beside Horizon Boulevard and Allard Road. For more information, contact Hydro-Québec’s Info-Project Line at 1-866-388-1978. | Second Draft Project 596-20: Referendum Approval Process Underway | On April 7, certain provisions of Draft By-law 596-20 to amend Zoning By-law 596 were adopted, as they did not obtain the minimum number of signatures required by law to be submitted to the referendum process. Other proposed provisions will, however, be subject to a register, a preliminary step prior to holding a referendum. To avoid overwhelming staff at Town Hall reception, we ask that you report urgent cases only. You can do so online through the Citizen Portal. In addition, spot repairs are being carried out on the Town’s gravel roads. | | These targeted interventions will correct the most deteriorated sections and ensure the safety of road users in the short term. Once this repair period is completed, a full grading operation will be carried out on all of the Town’s gravel roads to improve their overall condition uniformly. Please note that progress will depend on weather conditions. We will do our best to complete the work as quickly as possible. Thank you for your cooperation! | Pool Inspections: What You Need to Know | Did you know that the Gouvernement du Québec has granted an additional grace period to owners of pools installed before November 1, 2010, to comply with the Residential Swimming Pool Safety Regulation. They now have until September 30, 2027, to do so. Pools installed since 2010, as well as those that will be installed in the coming months, must already comply with the regulation currently in force. That is why municipal inspectors will soon be resuming inspections of outdoor residential pools to ensure compliance. | | In the meantime, the Ministère des Affaires municipales et de l’Habitation has made a practical guide (in French) available to help you assess whether your installation is compliant. If you have already made the necessary corrections or if your assessment using the Ministère’s online tool shows that your pool is compliant, please inform the Urban Planning Department as soon as possible at urbanisme@lacbrome.ca. Supporting documents will be required. Thank you for your cooperation in helping ensure everyone’s safety! | Burn Permit: Remember to Apply in Advance | With the return of warm weather comes the start of the open-air burning season. But what exactly is an “open-air fire”? It refers to any fire burning freely or likely to spread uncontrollably. Pyrotechnic devices (fireworks), as well as equipment that produces sparks or embers, such as welding tools, are examples. SOPFEU reminds the public that in spring, dead grass is highly flammable. A few hours of sunshine combined with a bit of wind are enough to significantly increase the risk of fire. | | Please note that it is strictly prohibited to burn polluting materials, waste, pallets, or construction debris. A burning permit is mandatory and must be requested online at least 48 business hours before the planned fire date. This ban, extended until June 6, 2026, applies to raccoons, striped skunks, grey and red foxes, as well as coyotes and their hybrids. This measure has been implemented to help curb the spread of raccoon rabies. The risk of spreading rabies by moving or relocating animals is very high in Estrie and Montérégie due to rabies cases detected in these regions since December 2024. | | Even if an animal appears healthy, the disease may be in its incubation period, and the animal could develop symptoms several weeks or even several months after being infected. That is why the Town of Brome Lake will be implementing, in the coming weeks, several bird-deterrent measures to prevent them from stopping to rest and feed at the beach. - A net delimiting the grassy area, equipped with gates to allow you to access the beach easily;
- Kites shaped like birds of prey, which mimic the geese’s natural predators;
- Flashing lights that disturb them at night.
Your cooperation is essential for these measures to work: ✅ Use the designated gates to pass through the net ✅ Close the gate behind you each time you go through ✅ Do not climb over or go under the net ✅ Leave the installations in place — they are fragile and essential for the system to work properly ✅ Do not feed the birds Together, let’s make Douglass Beach an even more welcoming place this summer! | Boat Cleaning Station Opening Soon | The self-service boat-washing station is scheduled to open on Friday, May 1.
