Phase 2 Water Restrictions are Now in Effect

During Stage 2, hand watering of trees, flowers, and shrubs is allowed any day from 6 to 9 p.m. and 7 to 10 p.m.

Hand watering of vegetable gardens is allowed any day at any time.

Notice of Local Events and Impacts: Downtown Squamish

The 2025 Arc'teryx Climb Academy is this weekend. Please expect the following impacts:

  • Cleveland Avenue will be closed between Main and Victoria Street from Thursday, August 21 through Monday August 25. This closure will allow time for setup and teardown of the event.
  • Noise impacts until 11 p.m. on Friday August 22 and Saturday, August 23.

Notice of Construction Activity: Mount Garibaldi Cemetery

The cemetery is approaching capacity and needs expansion. Once complete, the cemetery services will be expanded to include green burials and a scattering garden. 

Construction will begin August 25 and continue through December. 

Visitors should expect construction noise and activities Monday to Friday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Infrastructure Upgrades

• Installation work on the watermain near Bill’s Place has been paused and will resume early September.
• Sanitary forcemain upgrade on Pia Road continues.
• Watermain upgrade on Birken Road continues.
• Annual road painting refresh program is underway. Crews are working at night to limit traffic impacts.
• Work on the Victoria Street Active Transportation Upgrades continues.

OCP Engagement: Focus on Housing

The public comment period is still open for Official Community Plan (OCP) Amendment Bylaw No. 3139 (OCP Bylaw 3139). These Provincially mandated amendments aim to align the District’s OCP with long-range housing needs identified in the Squamish Interim Housing Needs Report. Before second reading this fall, you can share your input.

Get in your Comfort Zone with Retrofit Assist!

Homeowners who are looking to make their houses more energy-efficient and comfortable have access to a FREE, one-to-one guidance session through the Retrofit Assist program.

Retrofit Assist will also work with the local construction industry to provide training and professional development courses so Squamish workers can benefit from the projected boom in retrofit activity in the future.

Homeowners interested in participating in Retrofit Assist are encouraged to visit retrofitassist.ca/squamish for more information.

Brennan Park Recreation Centre: Annual Pool Shutdown

The Brennan Park Recreation Centre annual pool maintenance shutdown begins September 3.  Aquatics programs and lessons will resume on October 11.  

During the shutdown, maintenance works are completed to ensure the longevity of the Aquatic Centre and to help prevent larger, more costly problems from occurring in the future. This year's shutdown has been extended in order to complete work related to the Brennan Park Recreation Centre renovation project.

What is a Housing Interest List?

It's a confidential list of people actively seeking rental housing in Squamish. The list is maintained by Squamish Housing and helps ensure that:
 

  • Only active rental housing seekers are contacted when opportunities arise.
  • The database stays current and accurate.
  • Meaningful data is collected to better understand the housing needs in Squamish.
