TSB report: Arnprior air collision, June 14, 2020

TSB safety messages found  in report A20O0053, published November 18, 2020.

The 2 aircraft under study were in VFR flight in uncontrolled airspace. Neither pilot saw the other aircraft before the mid-air collision, in part because of the limitations inherent in the see-and-avoid principle. Relying solely on visual detection increases the risk of collision in uncontrolled airspace. Pilots are strongly encouraged to communicate their intentions and to stay tuned while in uncontrolled airspace, in accordance with Transport Canada VFR communication procedures, although they are not required to do so. .
Several collision avoidance systems are currently available, and some are designed specifically for the general aviation market. These technologies could significantly reduce the risk of mid-air collisions.

I got it from my bag of chances: Pascal J. Brabant

My first aeronautical event happened to me this fall and I think it would be interesting to share the reflection that followed the debriefing on the event. Idea to share the lessons we have learned with the community. I am sure that several are already aware of my conclusions, but I am sure that some will benefit from it. It should be noted that a priori, this is not an analysis on the type of aircraft or on the selection of the service provider, but an analysis on the decision-making and the implementation of safer aviation practice.

Meeting with a SERABEC manager: Rémi Girard

With the large number of air incidents and accidents over the past 2 years, we have had the opportunity to see or hear about the Quebec Aerial Research and Rescue team (SERABEC). What you don't know is that since my very beginnings in aviation, I have on my bucketlist to join the SERABEC team. I remember the first few moments I heard about it like it was yesterday. My reaction was spontaneous: "I have to join their team." Except that at the time, you had to have your own plane, I was informed.

It took quite a few years, but above all the meeting of a rather impressive man to finally open the doors. I did an interview with Rémi Girard, Training and Operations Manager for Quebec, telling me that there may be other people like me who would like to join, or have more information.

I would like to thank Rémi, who agreed to play the 10 questions game with me.

Aerodrome circuit at Trois-Rivières airport (CYRQ)

At the request of the Trois-Rivières airport management, we are providing you this message:

Good morning all,

We recently had several noise complaints from citizens of the city of Trois-Rivières.

In order to properly visualize the circuits at the airport, we have produced a map that shows the approach of the circuits in order to avoid circuits above the resident neighborhoods when possible.

Thanking you for your understanding,

My warmest regards.

We are looking for testimonials on two aviators who marked the history of aviation in Quebec

Nicole Lorrain, historian, is preparing a file on two aviators who have marked the history of aviation in Quebec, in order to present them as candidates for the Panthéon de l'Air et de l'Espace du Québec :

  • Claude Michaud: founder of Aéro Taxi and of the first aviation school recognized by the Quebec Ministry of Education.
  • Gilles Filiatrault, AME: mechanic affectionately nicknamed the Flying Sister and who has worked all over the province.

If you have any testimonials, anecdotes or any other information that could be useful, please send them to Madame Lorrain optoinfonick@gmail.com
