Tips for coping with homesickness in university 🫶

University can be a challenging journey on its own without the added struggle of being homesick. If you are an international student or have moved to Kelowna for university, you know the feeling. As you are learning to live on your own, you are also learning to live alone. Figuring out how to navigate the inherent loneliness that comes with being an adult can be a beautiful and rewarding thing.

Get tips and advice from a student who has experienced homesickness in university in a previous edition of our UBCO Life blog.

Take care of yourself over the break! 🫂

Winter Break is the perfect time to unwind and recharge after a busy semester. Enjoy the festivities, but don’t forget to relax and prioritize your wellbeing!

Tip 1: Take this break to catch up on sleep, spend time with loved ones, and indulge in your favourite winter activities. This can be a joyous time for some people and others may feel differently. If you find you need support over the break, remember that Here2Talk is always available. The free service can connect you with virtual or in-person counselling and mental health resources.

Tip 2: If you’re planning to celebrate with a few drinks, drink responsibly! Know your limits, stay hydrated, and pace yourself. Always have a designated driver or use ride-sharing apps to get home safely. Keep an eye out for your friends and make sure everyone has a fun and safe time. Access more tips here.

Tip 3: Finally, Winter Break is a time to recharge your batteries and get ready to start the new year fresh and energized. Rest up, reconnect with loved ones and spend some time doing something you enjoy. We look forward to seeing you next year!
