Dear Residents,
As May comes to an end and June is upon us, it reminds me of the saying, 'June makes daytime last longer' and it would appear that it's a good thing it does as June is a very busy month with schools, community colleges, and universities holding end of year exams and graduations.
Congratulations to all graduates! I wish each of you much success in the next chapter of your learning journey.
June is also a busy time for gardeners and farmers, and a damp and warm June does a farmer no harm.
A damp June will also help against experiencing the devastation of last May's wildfires that ravaged 25,000 hectares of land in our Province including private properties. On May 16, the Provincial Government increased the fine for violating the daily burn restrictions to $25,000 and applies to provincial, municipal, and private campgrounds. During wildfire risk season, March 15 to October 15, no domestic brush burning or campfires are allowed between 8:00 am and 2:00 pm. Burn restrictions are updated each day at 2:00 pm so please check the fire restrictions map at novascotia.ca. As I type this letter, the entire map of Nova Scotia is in RED which means no burning for any reason is permitted.
Let's remember how easily last year's wildfires were started, it only takes a small spark.
As always, no matter how busy any of us are, stay safe and stay healthy.
