Curbside Collection Calendars

The 2025 curbside collection calendars are ready and there are a few options to get your hands on one.

The Nanaimo Recycles app (available on the Apple App Store and GooglePlay) is the best option. The app can be set to send reminders leading up to and on collection day, can be used to glance at future collection days and the City pushes out updates on the app when there are weather delays or other unpredictable collection updates.

If you don’t have access to a smart phone or prefer not to use an app, the "My Schedule" reminder system on the City website offers a simple way to help you remember your waste collection day. Using just your address, access your own personalized Curbside Collection Schedule.

For residents that would like a printout of their schedule, you can visit any of the following City buildings:

Drop-In Pottery Studio

The Bowen Park Pottery Studio has all the tools, equipment and supplies available for you to work on your projects independently. Children, when accompanied by an adult, are welcome (both must register). Teens who have taken a pottery class are welcome to work independently on projects. No instruction, but some guidance, is provided during the drop-in times.

Clay may be purchased for $35 (including tax) per 22-pound bag, which includes all firing and glazing fees. It can be purchased during office hours Monday to Friday, 9 am to 4 pm in person or over the phone. The drop-in cost is $14 per session. Harbour City Seniors Members can access the starred* drop-in sessions for $7 per session. Make sure to dress for mess; aprons are not provided.

Winterfest comes to Downtown Nanaimo

Nanaimo's downtown and Old City Quarter are adding festive cheer this December with Winterfest, featuring late night shopping between 5 pm and 8 pm on December 12 and 19 staged by the Downtown Nanaimo Business Association. There will be activities in Diana Krall plaza, including music and food trucks. Free parking is available in City-owned parkades and along downtown streets after 5 pm and all day on weekends. In addition, the City is offering 2 hour free on-street parking and on Levels 2 and 3 of the Bastion parkade before 5 pm on weekdays.

Will Your Commute Be Affected This Week?

When approaching construction zones, please make sure to slow down, follow any detours that may be in place and obey all signage and traffic personnel instructions. Remember that construction zone speed limits are 30 km/hr unless otherwise posted. Thank you for your patience!

Midtown Gateway Project

  • Use caution and expect delays in the following areas:
    • Single lane alternating traffic on Boxwood Road.
    • The south access to Beban Park will be closed 24 hours per day. Please exit the park from the other end. All park amenities and programs remain open and accessible.
  • All businesses remain open.

Midtown Water Supply Project

  • Expect minor delays during the day in the following areas:
    • Bowen Road between Pryde Avenue and Meredith Road.
    • Labieux Road between Kenworth Road and Beban Parkway.
  • All businesses in these areas remain open and accessible.
  • The trailway between Third Street, VIU and the Black Diamond neighbourhood is closed, this area is an active construction site.

  • Expect delays and single-lane-alternating traffic on Buttertubs Drive, Monday to Friday, 7 am to 5 pm.
