Highlights in this edition... | | Mayor's Message On behalf of King Township Council, welcome to the February edition of the King Bulletin. I am thrilled to share the incredible success of the official opening of the Zancor Centre, a vision 20 years in the making that has finally come to life. On Sunday, Jan. 26, we celebrated this momentous occasion with an impressive turnout of residents and visitors, showcasing the true spirit of our community. The Zancor Centre, Canada's first zero-carbon, combined aquatics and ice sports facility, is a testament to the power of collaborative partnerships. Located on 25 acres at the southeast corner of the King Campus of Seneca, this state-of-the-art facility drew an amazing crowd for a day filled with fun and free activities. The festivities began with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, where I had the honor of speaking about the partnerships that made this dream a reality. We were joined by Premier Doug Ford, MP Francesco Sorbara, MPP Stephen Lecce, MP Anna Roberts and Seneca Polytechnic President David Agnew, along with numerous dignitaries from York Region. One of the highlights of the day was the annual Mayor’s Pancake Breakfast, where I, along with members of King Township Council, served delicious breakfast dishes prepared by the King City Lions Club. It was heartwarming to see so many families enjoying the meal together. Throughout the day, residents explored the Zancor Centre's incredible amenities on staff-led tours and participated in a variety of activities. From swimming, skating, and sports to building, coding, and playing with robots, there was something for everyone. The day concluded with an exciting Ontario Junior Hockey League game between the King Rebellion and the Caledon Admirals, with free admission in exchange for donations to the King Township Food Bank. I’m happy to report the Rebellion won the game 4-2 in front of a packed crowd. I encourage you to visit the Zancor Centre and take advantage of the many programs and services it offers. For more information, please visit king.ca/ZancorCentre. Please continue to volunteer, shop locally as much as you can and visit king.ca for the latest news on all things King. Sincerely, Mayor Steve Pellegrini | King celebrates grand opening of Zancor Centre A vision 20 years in the making became a reality on Sunday, Jan. 26 as King Township celebrated the official opening of Zancor Centre, Canada's first zero-carbon, combined aquatics and ice sports facility, located in King City. The event drew an impressive crowd of residents and visitors for a day of fun-filled, free activities—from swimming, skating and (so many!) sports including a King Rebellion game—all fueled by the Mayor’s Pancake Breakfast. The ceremonial ribbon cutting marked a new era for recreation in King Township. This $86 million, multi-partner facility was made possible with funding support from the federal and provincial governments, as well as Seneca Polytechnic and the development community. Thank you to all our partners.
