Dear preceptors,

Class is in session! Fall is fast approaching, so squeeze in those warmer days. Our thoughts are with those who continue to be affected by the fires.

In light of the recent protest throughout the country (and globally), we are sharing a statement from the UBC Equity and Inclusion Office, a stance that Midwifery echoes.

UBC stands in support of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities

Corrections from the August newsletter:

  • Our new Instructional Assistant, Connor Hang's surname, was misspelled Jang.
    [Sorry, Connor!]
  • The Victoria 20th Anniversary Celebration is indeed on the 18th. The introductory letter had listed the 19th.

From the Director:

Dear preceptors,

I received a warm welcome from faculty and staff at the UBC Midwifery annual retreat. I was grateful to meet the team in person—many members of the BC Midwifery community.

Over the coming weeks, I will continue to reach out to work with team members and stakeholders to understand the structure of the program, current issues and future visions as it relates to supporting preceptors.

Preceptors are top of mind, and setting up our preceptors and students for success is integral to the profession and UBC Midwifery. With the expansion and provincial support, recent wage increases, there are more opportunities than ever to highlight Midwifery. I look forward to working with you and getting to know this community.

UBC Midwifery Director,

Kellie Thiessen
