Join us at two open houses, learn about why wishcycling isn’t a good recycling practice and be aware that dry conditions continue. Read on for more!

World Trade Centre tribute

In 2009, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey began accepting requests from organizations for a piece of World Trade Center steel. The steel was recovered from the World Trade Center site after Sept. 11, 2001, and secured at JFK Airport by The Port Authority of New York and NewJersey.

The steel withstood the most horrific attack on American soil that took the lives of 2,819 people. Nanaimo Fire Rescue is proud to have received one of 1,500 of these pieces. It is not known which tower the beam came from.

PROJECT INFO

A little rain isn't enough

Did you know? When the soil gets this dry it can become hydrophobic, meaning the ground won’t initially absorb the water.

The City of Nanaimo would like to remind all park users that smoking, campfires and barbeques are not permitted in City parks.

To report a fire in a City of Nanaimo park or trail, please call 911. To report a wildfire, please call 1-800-663-5555 or *5555 on most cellular networks.

FIRE & RESCUE

Recycling and wishcyling talk trash and blue carts

Wishcycling and Recycling are two friendly characters who talk about recycling, the blue cart and curbside pickup. What can go in the blue cart? Recycling introduces Wishcycling to the concept of contamination and why wishcycling is not a good way to recycle.
