Transit On Demand Technology Update

On October 15, Okotoks Transit is upgrading on-demand technology to increase trip availability by managing ride cancellations and no-shows. The new system will monitor individual usage over a 30-day period. If a user has 10 or more bookings during this time and cancels or does not show up for 40% or more of them within one hour of booking time, they will be limited to two simultaneously open bookings for seven days. Once a ride is completed, another can be booked. After seven days, unlimited bookings will be available again. Thanks for your cooperation.

Prevent Wildlife Encounters

We live in a wildlife corridor and can expect to share the area, especially the river valley, with many animals. Please remember not to feed or approach wildlife. Predators like coyotes and cougars are most active at dusk and dawn. Be cautious in the river valley, especially at these times, or avoid the area. If you spot a cougar or bear, please call Parks at 403-938-8958 and Report-A-Poacher at 1-800-642-3800; this line is monitored 24/7. If you are under attack by a wild animal call 9-1-1.

Remember to winterize your rain barrel

Winterizing your rain barrel prevents it from cracking over the winter. Drain your barrel completely and turn it upside down or store it in a garage or shed. Don’t forget to direct your downspout away from your foundation after you’ve disconnected your rain barrel.

Fall Pollinator Protection

Forget your fall garden clean-up! Pollinators lay eggs and shelter in wood and leaf or garden litter in your yard over the winter. Leave dead plants, wood, and leaves in your garden until late spring to help our pollinators thrive.

Natural fall needle casting on spruce and pine

Oh no! My evergreens are yellowing!
Don’t worry, this is normal at this time of year when evergreens periodically shed leaves (needles). Fall needle cast is generally concentrated on the branches and stems closest to the main trunk on the lower 2/3 of the tree, where the oldest needles are generally located. Yellowing from fall needle cast is normal and is not a harmful effect. Remember to water your evergreens in during the fall to prevent them from drying out over the winter. By doing this, you will help minimize the chance of winter desiccation.
