Metabolic Boost Injection

B vitamins play a critical role in metabolism, energy production, hormone regulation, and detoxification. Humans cannot make these essential B vitamins, so they must be acquired through external sources like food. For many people, however, eating sufficient B vitamins for optimal health is challenging. In these situations, B vitamins can be provided supplementally through oral pills, by injection, or intravenously.

At the IHC, we offer broad-spectrum B vitamin injections for those who need a quick boost or who have insufficient absorption of oral B vitamins. The metabolic boost injection includes a B-complex with additional B6, B12, and folate. It can be helpful for improving energy, supporting stress management and mental health, regulating hormones, and preventing many chronic diseases associated with B vitamin deficiencies.

Gathering Group Masterclass

Hello patients of IHC.

I am excited to be introducing you all to a service that may be of interest and assistance to some of you. A service we do not offer at IHC but one that has been extremely powerful and transformative for many of my patients over the years. As we do not have any experts in this field at IHC, I am bringing someone in; a registered clinical counsellor named Gillian Drader, RCC. Gillian was one of our clinical counsellors at IHC Fort Langley many years ago, and we have worked collaboratively ever since. Over the years Gillian’s practice has evolved, and she is now also including plant medicine like Psilocybin species in her toolbox, working with a company called Gathering Groups. Her work has certainly caught my interest as many patients have reported incredible experiences from this type of treatment over the years. Gathering Groups guide people through plant medicine experiences. Please see their announcement below:

We are excited to invite you to participate in a groundbreaking twelve-week resilience group program, designed exclusively for patients of Integrated Health Clinic. This transformative journey will offer eight weeks of online preparation, a two-night in-person medicine retreat, and four online integration sessions, offering a unique opportunity to explore the healing power of plant medicine in a safe, professionally facilitated setting.

This group will focus on building emotional resilience, deepening personal growth, and creating a supportive community. Throughout the twelve weeks, you’ll engage in practices that prepare you for the plant medicine experience, allowing you to fully integrate the healing insights gained during the retreat.

If you are curious about how plant medicine can support your health, healing, and connection to self, we encourage you to join our upcoming masterclass on October 21st.

We are excited to share this transformative journey with you!

For those of you that may be interested in this service, please sign up for the upcoming Masterclasses that will introduce you further to their work.

From the Cancer Care Center

What is Dermoscopy All About?

Having just returned from a whirlwind trip and conference in NYC, I am excited to share something very exciting with our patients. Having spent 25 years working with people living with cancer, or a history of it (yes!), I am growing ever-more motivated to assist people in screening better and finding cancer at its earliest stages. Skin cancers, including malignant melanoma, are highly curable when found at their earliest stages. Skin cancer screening is essential to saving lives, period.

Everybody is encouraged to prevent skin burns, limit their time in the sun, check their skin, watch for new or changing moles, and perhaps to learn the A, B, C, D, and Es of skin cancer (asymmetry, border, color, diameter, evolution). But let’s be honest, to find skin cancer like early or superficial melanoma with the naked eye is not so easy, especially when smallest and most easily curable. Technology now allows us to visualize the skin, even slightly below the outer surface, with incredible detail.

So, if you have a family history of melanoma, have a personal history of skin cancer, are fair skinned, have red/blonde hair, freckles, have had skin burns, suntanned, or have many moles on your skin and can’t tell what is what, this should interest you.

We are now offering Automated Total Body Mapping (ATBM) with the FotoFinder 2000, a state-of-the-art, German dermoscopy device providing a high-resolution “map” of almost the entire skin surface. We ask patients to wear their hair up, not to wear make-up, jewellery, nail polish, or anything else that covers any amount of the skin. We ask you wear your own underwear capturing as much of the skin surface as comfortable. An easy and reproducible sequence of images are taken from head to toe within just minutes. Dr. Parmar will then review these ATBM images and perform a complete skin exam, taking more detailed images as needed (magnified 20-140X) to complete the examination, followed by further evaluation – allowing identification of any potential lesions of concern, and the required next steps for optimal care. Sometimes that means a repeat dermoscopic examination in 3 months to look for evolution, a biopsy, or to repeat annually.

Dr. Parmar is now accepting patients for total body or specific dermoscopy examinations on Thursday in the White Rock Clinic. Please contact the clinic for more information on bookings, costs, and other service related questions.

How can Dermoscopy Help?

  • allows observer to concentrate on lesion and formular a logical differential diagnosis
  • helps differentiate melanocytic from non-melanocytic lesions
  • helps differentiate benign from malignant lesions
  • improves diagnostic accuracy
  • increases the observer’s confidence in their clinical diagnosis
  • confirms naked eye diagnosis (clinical-dermoscopy correlation)
  • improves malignant to benign biopsy ratio (avoids unnecessary biopsies)
  • helps isolate suspicious foci within lesions – directing pathology
  • helps more precisely define borders of some lesions for improved pre-surgical margin mapping
  • helps the surveillance of patients with many nevi (moles)
  • helps reassure patients

Menopause and women’s cardiovascular health: is it really an obvious relationship?

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10074318/

“Once a woman goes into menopause, estrogen levels become nonexistent, which negatively affects the cardiovascular system,” Sheryl A. Ross, MD, a board certified OB/GYN and women’s health expert at Providence Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, CA

That is because “estrogen production helps maintain the elasticity in the blood vessels, reduces LDL or the ‘bad’ cholesterol and promotes HDL or the ‘good’ cholesterol production,” Ross further detailed.

“Taking estrogen replacement therapy can help by bringing back the benefits of elasticity in blood vessels, reducing LDL levels and promoting HDL levels, which support heart health,” Ross also told us.

“It is suggested to start estrogen replacement therapy as you enter menopause for optimal cardiovascular benefits,” she advised.

Doctor Favourite Receipes

No Flour/No Sugar - Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients:

3 mashed bananas (ripe)

1/3 cup unsweetened apple sauce

2 cups large flaked rolled oats

1/4 cup almond milk or oat milk

1/4 cup raisins or nuts

1 cup good dark chocolate chips

1 tsp vanilla

1 tsp cinnamon

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed bananas and apple sauce. Stir them together until they are well mixed.

Add the vanilla extract and cinnamon. Mix these in thoroughly to distribute the flavors evenly.

Add the oats to the bowl. Stir them into the mixture until they are fully incorporated.

Pour the almond /oat milk into the mixture to help moisten the oats. Then, add your choice of raisins, nuts, and dark chocolate chunks. Stir the mixture well to ensure that the add-ins are evenly distributed throughout.

Prepare the Baking Sheet: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent the cookies from sticking.

Spoon out portions of the cookie mixture onto the prepared baking sheet. You can use a spoon or a cookie scoop to make uniform cookies. Flatten the cookies slightly with the back of the spoon or your hand, as they will not spread much during baking.

Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the cookies for 15-20 minutes, or until they are firm and lightly golden.

Remove the cookies from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes. Then, transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Enjoy: Once cooled, your healthy cookies are ready to be enjoyed!
