Long-term borrowing is a useful tool for municipalities that spreads the cost of large projects over the life of the project and allows today’s taxpayers – as well as future taxpayers – to pay for it. - If you are NOT OPPOSED to these bylaws, you do not need to submit any forms.

| The District is hosting a Multiplex Design Competition to facilitate the delivery of more housing units in Squamish. A multiplex refers to housing forms with a physical arrangement of three or more attached principal dwelling units. These housing forms meet the requirements of recent provincial small-scale multi-unit housing legislation in B.C., which aims to increase flexibility for home building across the province and promote an increase in housing supply. Residents of B.C. aged 19+ are invited to submit a multiplex design consisting of either three or four stratified dwelling units that incorporate creativity, sustainability, affordability, and appeal. Squamish property owners may then purchase the winning designs to build on their property, saving both time and money. | The Waterfront Landing Development at 1500 Highway 99 is proposing changes to its zoning. Key updates include reduction of fill into the Mamquam Blind Channel, which increases marine habitat, and shifting from townhomes to more apartment buildings. The deadline to take the survey is September 15. | MULTIMEDIA EXHIBIT AT SQUAMISH PUBLIC LIBRARY | On Wednesday, September 11 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., a new multimedia exhibit titled The Mill will open at the Squamish Public Library. The exhibit is the result of the work of artist Russell Gendron. This thought-provoking exhibit delves into the forestry industry in British Columbia, using sound art and quilting to share the powerful stories of workers on Sḵwx̱wú7mesh territory and beyond. At the opening evening event, visitors will have the chance to hear Gendron speak about the project, explore the quilts and sounds, and participate in a Q&A. The Mill will be on display at the library through to the end of October. | | TEMPORARY PARKING LOT CLOSURE | The Squamish Farmers' Market/Copper Coil parking lot will be temporarily closed for realignment and painting from September 8 (evening) until September 10. This updated design will accommodate more parking, including additional motorcycle and bike spaces, and will feature a more efficient layout. Thank you for your understanding while this work is being completed! | | SQUAMISH FIRE RESCUE RECRUITMENT | Squamish Fire Rescue 2024 recruitment season is on now! Squamish Fire Rescue is looking for positive, energetic and community-minded citizens to join our team of paid on-call firefighters. If you are a permanent Squamish resident interested in joining a skilled and dedicated team, we would like to hear from you! The deadline to submit your application is September 13. | | NOTICE OF TRAFFIC AND NOISE IMPACTS | BRACKENDALE FALL FAIR The Brackendale Fall Fair is happening on Saturday, September 7. Traffic management will be in place at 41976 Government Road, alongside the Brackendale Farmers Institute Park. This corridor will be a no-stopping zone due to the close proximity of train tracks. The Fair will result in a high volume of active transportation and pedestrians, so please drive with caution and plan accordingly. GRANFONDO Traffic signals will be flashing and traffic movement both to and from the east side of Highway 99, will be restricted and/or closed on Saturday, September 7 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Please view the complete list of traffic impacts for the Sea to Sky region here. DISCOVERY TRAIL CLOSURE Crews will be conducting ditch remediation work until Tuesday, September 10 at the intersection of Industrial Way and Highway 99. Please note there will be intermittent slowed traffic flow on Industrial Way. Detours will be marked for cyclists and pedestrians via Production Way. SOIL REMOVAL WORK Crews will be working on a project to remove hydrocarbon contaminated soil at 39619 Galbraith Avenue. Work is targeted to complete September 10. Work will mostly occur within bylaw hours but will start as early as 2 a.m. and finish as late as 6 p.m. Work will not occur on the weekend. | FORTIS BC PROJECT Fortis BC is conducting pre-construction activities along Finch Drive and Industrial Way. Crews will be undertaking work to help identify the location of existing underground utilities in preparation for construction of the Eagle Mountain gas pipeline. This work will result in single-lane alternating traffic along Finch Drive and Industrial Way. Work is anticipated to occur from mid-August into September. CLEVELAND AVENUE There will be intermittent single-lane closures, sidewalk closures and detours along Cleveland Avenue, Loggers Lane, and Pemberton Avenue from September 4 to 14. This traffic disruption will occur on weekdays only, from 9:30 am to 4 pm, to accommodate crews monitoring wells. Signage and detour wayfinding will be in place where traffic disruptions occur. Thank you for your patience as this work is completed. SECOND AVENUE TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE Crews will require a road closure along Second Avenue between Victoria and Winnipeg Street on Tuesday, September 10 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The sidewalk on the west side will remain accessible during this time. | | As the season changes, bears begin preparing for winter hibernation by entering a state of hyperphagia, which means they develop an increased appetite, consuming up to 20,000 calories a day.
