Series of Publications from the Institut national de santé publique du Québec

As part of the Public Health Agency of Canada's Science in French Initiative, the Institut national de santé publique du Québec was able to translate various publications on current public health issues into English. The goal of this partnership is to promote the dissemination of scientific expertise to meet pan-Canadian needs. The NCCHPP is pleased to contribute to the efforts of promoting these resources. Here’s one publication from the series related to suicide prevention:

Preventing Suicide by Reducing Adverse Childhood Experiences and Their Consequences: Possible Courses of Action

Suicide prevention is a public health priority. In Canada and Québec, suicide is the second leading cause of death among young adults. Adverse childhood experiences (e.g. physical violence, sexual violence, exposure to domestic violence, parent with a mental health issues) significantly increase the risk of suicide throughout life. This knowledge synthesis represents a novel effort. It aims to understand how preventive and promotional interventions can reduce adverse childhood experiences and their consequences (including mental health issues), thereby contributing to suicide prevention.
