Author Talk: Andrew Wright

Sunday, September 25, 2022 | 2 pm

Conservation and documentary photographer, Andrew S. Wright, presents on and shows photos from his most recent book, The Pelican’s Paradise: Preventing Extinctions.

Andrew has been working with the non-profit, Island Conservation. They have removed invasive species on 65 islands worldwide and protected 500 species on fragile and remote islands. Andrew has documented their work on five of these islands, including the Gwaii Haanas in BC and will present their fascinating story through his incredible photographs.

This program is presented by Bowen Island Public Library and Bowen Island Food Resilience Society.

Film Night: Indian Horse

Thursday, September 29, 2022 | 6:30 pm

An adaptation of Ojibway writer Richard Wagamese’s award-winning novel, this moving and important drama sheds light on the dark history of Canada’s Indigenous Residential Schools and the indomitable spirit of aboriginal people.

Join us for a drop-in movie in the Library Annex, as an opportunity to learn through story about the residential school experience, in honour of National Day for Truth & Reconciliation on Sept. 30.

The Teen Advisory Group is for teens who want to make the Library better for themselves and for other teens! Joining TAG gives you a voice in what happens at the Library!

  • Suggest items for the Library’s teen collections
  • Suggest programs and services you’d like us to offer
  • Participate in library and community activities
  • Earn volunteer hours and boost your resume

No registration required. Drop-ins welcome.

Thank You, Jennifer! Welcome Back, Tina!

This week we wished Interim Library Director, Jennifer Streckmann, a fond farewell as she wrapped up her productive year at the Bowen Island Library. Staff, volunteers, and patrons alike have enjoyed her warm and positive leadership this year.

We were also happy to welcome back our long-time Chief Librarian, Tina Nielsen. After a much-deserved year off, Tina is returning fresh to lead our Library once again into a bright future.

Drop in to meet with Janice, a WorkBC Career Advisor, at the Library! Click on her image below to hear Janice explain a little about what she does for Bowen Islanders during her drop-in sessions.

Come get one-on-one help with resumes, cover letters, interviewing, job searches, insights on the job market, career and education advice, and more from a WorkBC Career Advisor.

This free drop-in service is in the Library Flex Room on the 4th Wednesday of the month: September 28, October 26, and Nov 23.

Next Book Donation Day

Saturday, September 10, 2022 | 1 pm

Donations of clean, good condition used books and DVDs can be brought to the Bowen Island Library Annex starting at 1 pm and going until our bins are full (no later than 3 pm).

A volunteer will pre-screen your donations while you wait and will accept those that meet donation guidelines. Donors will need to take back any items that do not meet the guidelines.

Closed Friday, September 30

Bowen Library will be closed Friday, September 30 for National Day for Truth & Reconciliation.

We will be open Thursday, Sept 29, 10 am-8 pm and Saturday, Oct 1, 12-4 pm as usual.
