UBCO Heat basketball home-opener weekend

Looking for the perfect way to end your midterm break? Grab your Heat gear and cheer on the men’s and women’s basketball teams at their home-opener weekend! Both teams will showdown against the Brandon Bobcats in the Furnace gymnasium on November 12 and 13.

All UBCO Heat games are free for UBCO students to attend!

Take some time to rest and relax at
SVPRO’s Rest Café

As part of Thrive, SVPRO is hosting a Rest Cafe in the Nechako Gathering Room on November 15 from 1 to 4 pm. Rest Cafe will be a drop-in, quiet space open to anyone on campus. Remove your shoes at the entrance and grab an exercise mat to take a nap or do some light stretching and meditation. Enjoy some herbal tea or write down sleep and rest-related affirmations.

A glow-in-the-dark yoga dance party

This is a yoga class that you won’t want to miss! Register early for this popular event happening on November 17 from 8 to 9 pm in the Furnace. Take a break from studying and join UBCO Recreation at a glow-in-the-dark yoga dance party with a live DJ.

Doors open at 7:30 pm, so come early to get your glow on with glow sticks and body paint.

Celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities

In collaboration with Thrive at UBCO, the Disability Resource Centre (DRC) invites you to attend this open space for students, staff, faculty, and community members to come together for an afternoon of community and connection.

Come by the DRC in UNC 215 between 12 to 3 pm to have a snack, enter to win a door prize, enjoy a pop-up art gallery, partake in a game, or take an ASL (American Sign Language) lesson from 1 to 2 pm. Everyone is welcome!

3 for 30 November fitness challenge

UBCO Recreation challenges you to complete three 30-minute workouts each week during the month of November. Workouts can include intramurals, fitness classes, drop-in gym use, or workouts at the Hangar fitness centre.

Summer overseas, anyone?

Global Seminar applications are now open for Summer 2023. Interested in having your classroom in Italy, Tanzania, Mexico, Mauritius, or one of our other locations? UBC faculty and students spend three weeks abroad, completing UBC credits. These programs are open to students in any year level and in any discipline and have flexible prerequisites.

Intercultural sports series

UBCO Recreation, Indigenous Programs & Services, and the Global Engagement Office—together with SUO Clubs and community partners—are teaming up to offer a series of cultural sports events that welcome domestic and international students to participate in and learn about intercultural sports.

Get Active 101 is a four-week introductory physical activity program where students can make friends and participate in a variety of activities with UBCO Recreation to help incorporate movement into their daily routine.

The Escape the Vape campaign and contest are running until November 7. Visit a pop-up booth to learn more about vaping cessation. Cope kits and other resources will be available for those looking to decrease their usage.

Workshops for international students on gender-based violence

MOSAIC (Multi-Lingual Orientation Service Association for Immigrant Communities) is excited to announce some upcoming free workshops for international students who identify as women. Virtual group sessions will be available on various topics such as gender-based violence, emotional well-being and healthy relationships, community resources, and more.

Help improve the accessibility of Campus Waste initiatives

The student-led Innovate, Design, Sustain (IDS) group is looking to improve the accessibility of waste bins and signage at UBC Okanagan and they need your input! Do you have ideas on how to make waste bins and signage more accessible or do you have other waste improvement ideas? Come to ART 102 on November 3 from 3:30 to 4:30 pm and share your thoughts!

The AMP Lab presents: the making of the inclusive language Twitter corpus

The third talk in our Tech Talk Series focuses on the experience of researchers who collected and analyzed a Twitter corpus to observe the use of inclusive language in Spanish.

They will present some of the challenges and benefits of using digital tools in digital humanities research.
