For generations, the suffering of residential school Survivors has radiated outward, impacting Indigenous families and communities. | | ADHD, Anxiety, Depression in School-aged Children (K-12): A Bowen Island Community Health Centre Talk with Dr. Matt Blackwood Tuesday, September 24 | 7:00 pm This is an informational session provided by the medical director of the Bowen Island Community Health Centre on some of the common questions that parents or families may have around ADHD, Anxiety and Depression in school-aged children. | | Come Get Your Summer Reading Club Medals! Summer Reading Club was a fun time for many this summer, with weekly workshops, visiting guests, and even a magician! Many children proudly showed their reading progress, collecting stickers and a medal for reading 15 minutes or more a day over the summer. If your child has completed 50 days of reading and would like a medal and certificate, please have them come to the front desk at the Library with their booklet by September 28. | | Save and Donate Your Seeds for a Chance to Win You could win one of two seed-saving books by Dan Jason! We happily accept seed donations from gardeners anytime throughout the year for our spring Seed Library. If you have been collecting seed from your garden of vegetables, herbs, or flowers, and would like to share them with the community, now is a good time to bring them in. Donate seeds at the Library by October 31 and you can enter a draw for one of two books by Dan Jason of Salt Spring Seeds: Saving Seeds and Changing the Climate with the Seeds We Sow. (We also accept unused store-bought seeds purchased within the last few years.) If you don't have seed envelopes, we have some available. You can also make origami seed envelopes! The TLS has no affiliation with the New York Times). The Time Literary Supplement is an independent weekly publication from the United Kingdom. Since 1902, the TLS has been publishing expert reviews and insightful, sometimes provocative essays by the best writers from around the world, and reviews 1500 books a year (as well as plays, films, operas, and concerts). | | Upcoming: Author Talk & Book Launch for Becoming the Harvest by Pauline Le Bel Sunday, October 27 | 1 pm Save the date for the launch of Pauline Le Bel’s most recent book of poetry, Becoming the Harvest, published by Caitlin Press. With playful wit and lyrical style, Pauline meditates on the gifts of ageing, moving through loss, and the process of finding joy and acceptance at the end of life. These are poems that view the end of life as a call to live life more fully, to love more thoughtfully. Pauline will recite (and sing) a few of the poems, as well as take impromptu questions from emcee Chris Corrigan and the audience for the first hour. Refreshments served and mingling / book sales after that. Matthew Van der Giessen on cello. Free admission, no registration required. All invited.
